Longest Big Game Kill With Rifle

2 weekends ago I broke my previous record of 760 on a doe antelope with this buck at 1010 yards. 338 Lapua shooting 300SMK's

Rifle is a 338 Lapua built on a 700 action. PT&G custom bolt. Tubb recoil lug, 26"fluted Krieger with a muscle brake. sitting in a greybull stock, PT&G bottom metal, Timney trigger. Badger 30 MOA base and Badger Max 50 rings Leupold 6.5-20x50mm.
The shot.... we knew where he was so we went and looked at him one last time, then drove down the road because I wanted to break 1k. so we got all set up with video camera and and rifle and then he laid down. All I could see was the base of his neck on up So I decided I would give a neck shot a try then when I missed he would stand up and id put one in his shoulder. so I doped my spin drift and wind and let it rip. he stood up and took off into a draw with his does and they never came out the other side so we went over there to scare them out so we could go back ant try another shot. Got up there and a bunch were bedded so we got them up but he just laid there and a minute or so later he died. I figured I had gut shot him. but my 300 SMK had whizzed right through his neck missing his spine and clipped his artery. He just bled out. no expansion on the bullet at all that I could tell.

He dropped faster than the value of a dollar.

First year shooting "Long Range" Did my build based on a Savage Model 10 .308, I'm shooting the 178 amax at 2780 fps.

Antelope taken at 350yds and Mule Deer at 397yrds. Both one shot kills with complete pass thru

This is a great poll but I have 3 Big Game shots in the last 12 months. 1 at a black bear 736 yrds and 2 to the goodies @751 yrds on a Mule deer last week...

637 yds on a Muley Doe with a 168gr sierra MK in .308@ 2550fps. That was pushing it for the setup I had. Leupold 3.5-10x40 with flat base. Scope was almost maxxed out. Since I got my .300 RUM my longest shot is 300yds. lol

I out did my personal best this year. I shot a mule deer buck at 952 yards with a Best of the West Signature series Cooper Rifle chambered in 7mm Rem Mag shooting 168 gr. Berger VLD's. Look for it on the Best of the West next season.

The wife has an elk at 607 yards with a 300wssm handgun. I know it is not a rifle, but sure seems close enough. 14" savage striker hand gun.
