Lets assume this is true, I do think its possible handloads would greatly improve a low end barrels precision. What I don't understand is if any barrel (and/or upper assembly) is capable of 1/2moa with handloads then how does any factory ammo group so poorly as what you got? Hornady isn't exactly low end factory ammo either IMO.Yeah, I hear you. Here's a picture the previous owner sent me concerning "target results" from THIS upper.

I'm a little skeptical when anyone says a low end ar is a 1/2" gun myself. Not with the Hornady Custom 123gr 'SST' it isn't. The guy I bought it from said that's the exact bullet he handloaded for into 1/2 moa accuracy at 100 yards. He "seemed" pretty surprised when I showed him the target pics. I'll grab ONE more box of another brand of hunting ammo (if I can find it) and see what happens, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
That's normal for a 6.5G-- you should have bought a 6.8 spc2----This is the ONLY target pic I have…..I shot several other targets, but only saved this one because in all honesty it was the "BEST" one. This was a 5-shot group shot from the prone position at 100 yards using Hornady Custom 123gr SST ammo. No the scope is NOT loose or broken….

Yep…..It was scoped for possible baffle strikes, etc and all appeared as it should. I also use that same can (YHM Resonator R2 .30 cal) on my 5.56 upper and I am VERY pleased with the accuracy I'm getting with both the PMC X-TAC and Federal ammo I'm using.@Deputy819, are you shooting with a can on the barrel?
If THAT'S the case then considering my 5 MOA groups at 100 yards (with the PSA barrel) I'd probably have better luck jumping down on deer from a tree and rendering them senseless with the butt of the rifle. That's normal for a 6.5G
I know, right? Not sure what happened there, but the the whole group in its entirety is vastly better than the original barrel could produce with THIS particular ammo. I'll take it….and try a couple boxes of different stuff at some point, too.Thats an interesting sub-group in the 10rd string...
Are you using the same ammo from your first trials? My X-Caliber barrel showed up last Friday and my Smith threw it on and also a new Superlative Arms gas-block. Those were the only 2 things changed from the original set-up (original PSA barrel).

Good enough for me as far THIS gas-gun is concerned.

Yep….same lot# and everything. Are you using the same ammo from your first trials?
Its definitely a huge improvement. Maybe that sub-group is a sign of what the new barrel is capable of once it settles in.I know, right?
