0-600yrds target caliber

I have a 12lb 6mm bench rest and it will shoot .4 and better @200 5 shot groups. Brass lasts forever and a pound of powder will load approximately 400 rounds. Lapua brass is available and dies can be had. It's just a fun round to shoot and not real finicky.

If this rifle will be confined to only target shooting, anything from a 223 remington up to the short action magnums will get the job done. I will be going down that same road soon.
My target rifle is going to be one of my two Howa 1500 short actions that will sport a Mcgowan 24 inch 7 twist barrel in .223. My goal is to have a 223 clone of my 308.

In your case the sky's the limit. Just about anything based on a short action cartridge will work fine. I like 223R, 308W, 6.5CM the best.

Hi everyone,
Im looking to have a new built on a rem 700 short action that I got.
Rifle will ne use for 600yrds range target.

Have a 284win, 7mm rem mag, 7mmm08, 2 308, one will give is action.

As you see im a 7mm fan and with the rem mag im well equiped for long range hunting.

I do think solding one 308 and go full custom but I like to use what I got at home.

Im looking at the 6mm dasher but im open to any idea.

I dont mind single feeding my rifle.
No question I would go with a 7SAW from West Texas Ordnance. Look that cartridge up. One pass of a 308 case through the sizing die or Clay sells already formed properly headstamped brass made by Alpha munitions. 162gr bullets around 2850fps and 185gr at 2700fps I believe. I run the 162 eldms in mine and get 2850. Crazy accurate and easy to load for. Clayton is a great guy to work with on a build too.

I agree with looking at what calibers are winning the target discipline that you want to shoot and also look at the gun weight for what you want to shoot. Then go with that. In today's supply chain, going way outside the box isn't easy. Recoil is something to think about too like was said, it's flat out fun to shoot a gun that has virtually no recoil.
