Back from the range! Ramshot Grand testing did not go as I had hoped. Surprising, right off the bat as my first shot came in at over 3100 fps! I was ready to get the show on the road after that first shot - excited about the possiblilties!

Downhill from there though... for me anyway. Second shot dropped to just over 3000 fps but the rest went right back up over 3100 fps. However, pressure signs struck. I had three, out of six shots, with heavy bolt and brass imprint.

Mind you, Hodgdon listed the load date as:

I began my load test at 72.0 and increased in 0.5 grain increments up to 74.5. Components are Peterson Brass (new), 215GM magnum primer, 150 TTSX. Rifle is a Ridgeline FFT. I also had a suppressor attached.

I did not fire my test rounds beyond the 72.5 load. Three shots on that load went as follows: 3132, 3141, and 3163 fps. That speed is incredible to me. But the pressure I did not like. Grouping was ok and could be worked on... but I already have a 1/2 inch group at 100 yards using RE22 - at 3000 fps. Don't know that RS Grand is useful for me.

For now, I plan to put RS Grand on a shelf and come back to later... maybe. Hope it works for you!

I had similar results when I tested it last Friday in my 6.8 Western. I found no improvement in FPS or accuracy over my Magpro load which uses 1.5 gr less powder and is $10-15 cheaper per lb. I'll probably put it away for now and try it in a different rifle down the road.

The only thing I can think of is get down in grains to produce a 3000 fps load with Grand and see what happens. Maybe somewhere in there it cleans up groups.

I have already decided that IF - and when - I try it again I will start at 67.0 grains and work up to 71.5 grains. But, not going to waste components to see if it will work at the same speeds I'm already getting. The Hodgdon data had me excited about a 150 TTSX traveling at 3150 fps... or a little faster. Not a reality for my rifle.

Thanks goodness I have enough RE22 and bullets to last longer than I will really ever need for hunting... but a civil war would be a problem ( :) )

Agree!

It shoots very well in my 300 prc with 220 X. 3 shots 3/8 inch close to 3000 fps with a es of 4 fps. Looking good in 280 AI with 175 LRAB at 2950. 5 more grains in a 7 prc than the 280 and it only running at 2880 and didnt shoot good. The 280 barrel is 4 inches longer though. Tried it in a 7 mag and it wasnt good there either. I guess it either works or it dont. I think it is definitly slower burning than my H1000.
