Hit the wrong key. 470. The guy that had it said it was a 600 gr bullet pushed by 120 ish grains of powder. It was a hoot. Now I want to try that tyrannosaurus. :)

The .270 WSM is a "laser" with, the right Bullet/ load and Kills,.. very well !
A .300 Mag/ .338 Mag,.. is NOT necessary,.. to kill Elk,.. my Dad did it with, a .30-06, 50 years ago, one shot w/ a 150 grain Nosler Partion ( pass thru and, dead Elk @ 200 ). My son and I killed 2 Elk this year, one with a 7mm-08 ( 150 ELD-X ) one with, a .270 WSM, using the 140 AccuBond,.. BOTH dead, ONE,.. SHOT each! But the "what Caliber wars", go on and on and on,.. LOL !! Have I ever mentioned that,.. I HATE,.. RECOIL !

So true but times have changed...bet you Dad did not have to wait 10 years or more for a limited draw tag--or pay 20k-50k for a hunt. 2 guys I have listened to over the years said "Ed take the biggest accurate gun, with the best bullet you can shoot well" do you need a 300 mag to kill a elk...no...but when the wind is high, the game is big, time is not on your side...and lets face it dollars and long awaited tags are at stake...I'll take a 300 mag over a 7-08...and I love me some 7-08...

You talking about the .577 Tyrannosaur...??? I do too! Shot some big bore rifles, but never anything that nasty.

50+ years of elk hunting with over 100 bulls and countless cows with everything from 243 to 375AI as well as 50 and 54 muzzle loaders. My dad in 60+ years has shot more elk than I have, mostly with 270 and 3006.
Two of my rifle kills this year were with 28 Nosler and 300WSM. Both slam dunk including a cow from my front porch Monday with 28 Nosler with 195 Berger!
Havent shot one with a bow in years but used a Raven Crossbow in Sept to take an average 6X6 Wyoming bull at 26yds and he went less than 20 yards.
I will never have just one rifle and I have more then any man should be blessed with,
but for all the hunting I do on big game my pick of three would be 6.5 (PRC or 26 Nosler), 28Nosler (or 300 RUM) or 338AI (or 338 RUM)! Ask me tomorrow and I'll likely pick several others! As Jim Carmichael once told me "my favorite is the one I happen to have in my hands on at the time"

I have to throw in a vote for the 300WBY. Everything from Mouse to Moose and everything else including the big bears. The same could be said for the 300RUM.
This is a 1 caliber choice between a 30 and 277.
I also shoot a 6.5x284. a 243. 300WSM and a 270 but anything less than a 7mm I would not even consider to use on big bears and since the choice is 277 or 30 cal. my choice is the 30.
You wont kill it too dead but you may not live to regret it if you don't kill it and it kills you.

A 500NE or a 577? Both are a hoot but a 577 is super fun...I've owned 2..and do I mean fun...in small doses
Not quite the mass and energy of the .500 class big bores, I have owned and hunted with my H&H 500-450 Nitro Express, acquired in the early 90's. 480gr@5000FPE. Made in 1904, also a rifle with interesting history, its still well suited for the intended purpose. Shown below is a Lion I shot about 30 years ago....at 20 paces. The rather tatty insert photo shows the original owner, a famous writer, PH, and adventurer, William Buckley. Hard to see but he holds the exact same rifle used for a lion he shot 100 years earlier.
