In the Ear? Really???

****, what is this thread coming to? Were actually getting Hog pictures again! About time someone posted a picture of a good hog, the only good hog being a dead hog.

Well, it's the weekend so maybe some of you other hunters out there can show us what you are getting. Doesn't matter if it's a hog, but would be preferred, but any pictures except djones and some of the dead cows and horses he's shot are considered acceptable.

scrmblr, what is with you not being able to recover the hogs you're shooting? if you're worried about the alligators in that swamp, get us an alligator. Spice it up with a pig leg sticking out of its mouth or something. That way if the game warden catches you, you can claim it was eating your livestock. The other thing you can do is put in a large fence trap somewhere where there are pigs, then Brand the ones you catch and let them go. When someone shoots them, you can charge them with shooting domestic animals and make them pay you for having shot them! The brand will establish ownership. Then again, they may charge you for the damage to their crops. Figure it out! There has got to be a way.

Once you get it figured out though, be wary of others doing the same thing and using a "running iron" on your brand. Being in SC though, not sure if hog rustling is as big of a problem as Cattle rustling was out west...................

Expecting a Hog picture of you and a dead hog or at least an alligator before Monday!......:D

Mr. Packrat, If you were to brand a hog in our state and someone especially a farmer figured whose brand it was there might be a neck tie party. As far as losing a pig, buzzards, possums, worms, etc. have to eat too. We have pigs near the Ga. line that go close to, and over quite often, 500 lbs. A bunch of hogs can get into a p-nut field and depending on the size of the pack can destroy acres of p-nuts in one night. I have a trap near Allendale in lower part of the state that is made of logs. I didn't run it last year due to my health. The year before that it wasn't unusual to trap 10 or more at a time. The top logs are 6" or bigger and about 4 1/5 to 5' off of the ground. I've had hogs large enough to get enough weight on the top log to break it 6 or 8 times. Wonder what she weighs?
scrmblr, tell Mr. Packrat about it. I bet you he's not from around here. Y'all have a good one, and scrmblr that's a real good eater if you got the time to do it, later, Paul

I'd love to post a photo of me and a dead hog, but my hunting is done for the weekend. Lots of places in the south don't allow hunting on Sunday. The property where this hog was taken doesn't allow hunting on Sunday's. It's 99 degrees out right, and too hot to hunt. I'll be back Monday morning about 30 minutes before the sun comes up. If the hogs show up, I'll be ready.

Looking back, I used the wrong gun on Thursday morning. I used a .223 with Barnes bullets when I should have taken the .308. This morning, Patrick and I were supposed to fire at the same time when we counted down from 5. He fired before I did, and my hog moved. I hit it further back than I intended. Regardless of me taking a hog, I'm excited for Patrick for getting his first hog. He is a lot like me in that work and family keep me from hunting as much as He would like.

We don't have any cattle farms around here that I'm aware of. My friend that lets me hunt his property just bulldozed his duck ponds berms flat. Next spring he'll plant grass seed and buy cows. He says it is getting harder to make money on crops so he'll try beef.

Lots of places in the south don't allow hunting on Sunday.

C'mon, you're pulling my leg right? Next thing you'll be telling me that you can't buy Beer or Liquor on Sunday either. Then again, you're probably not.

I had gone to Indian Head, Maryland to resolve a company problem for a period of what was supposedly one month when I left Washington State. Because we were going to take 3 weeks vacation and do the tourist thing and then stop at my brothers place in Texas on the way home, I decided to drive and take my wife with me. When we got there, I found that instead of a 1 month contract, I was going to be required to spend whatever time necessary to completely turn a Navy Contract around. This ended up being 5 Months total.

While there, I found that Contractors on the East Coast were using techniques and technologies that were at least 10 - 15 years out of date by West Coast standards, without even considering that West coast standards were to build to a Seismic code 3 or 4 level, because of earthquakes, which the East Coast didn't have to consider. West coast contractors can put up a building about 2/3 faster than East coast contractors from what I saw, and to a stiffer code requirement.

So, I guess that being on the East coast, they may not allow you to Hunt on Sunday.

BTW, I wasn't really serious about branding the hogs, just throwing out a line to give you a bad time. BUT!...Would love to see a picture of a 500 pound Hog from someone besides djones who would have photo shopped it from its normal 60 pound size.

SCPaul: And it's Packrat, not Mr. Packrat......No formalities on this thread. Sounds too much like you're trying to get on my good side.....:D

I spoke with my farmer friend about growing peanuts on his land. He says that almost all of his property has soil that breaks the peanut harvesting equipment. He says he gets tired of replacing parts all the time so he hasn't grown peanuts in several years and has no plans on growing them anytime soon.

No beer or liquor sales in Florence Co., SC on Sunday's.

Florence Co. overcame the "Blue Laws" tax threshold of $900,000 in 2011. Prior to that, retail stores couldn't open before 1:30 pm on Sunday's. If you went to Wal Mart at 0900 on Sunday, hardware, sporting goods, electronics, clothing, the auto center, and clothing were roped off. They wouldn't sell you a hammer. Sounds pathetic, but it is true.

ant12hony, I am re-posting a previous post where someone else PM'd me the same question.

Mr. Jones; In conformance with your requirements, you have stated that any PM's must be posted along with the answer, therefore I am conforming to your wishes. Only the LRH identity of the sender of the PM was changed to protect the innocent! Since I have been asked this same question a number of times, I have decided to answer it in this format.

Jackson,
Not at all like it seems! I have the utmost respect for Mr. Jones and his ability to shoot and hunt hogs and other critters. I also admire his tenacity. To have come up so far from his truly humble beginnings in Cesspool Flats, OK to his present position as a Sewage plant Operator 4 took on his part a truly admirable effort to overcome. Sometimes it is hard to remember that in the portion of Texas where he lives, he is educated above the majority of the populace, which can be evidenced by the grammar expressed on the posts he has made over the last 19 months or so. Unfortunately, he never learned to use the "Spell Check" function on his computer and has to be occasionally excused of unintentional oversight of the correct spelling and enunciation.

I do truly envy him the fact that he has something he is able to hunt year round, and which has become his major "claim to fame". Thankfully LRH posted a Hog Forum where he can at least partially satisfy his urgent need to be honored and admired for something! While the before mentioned, "Claim to Fame" may not be something that those younger of you viewers would attach much value to, you have to understand that when you get into your late 50's and early 60's, you inadvertently start pondering what you have contributed to society as a whole. At that age, Women attach less value to some of you as a sex partner, which generally is based on the lack of technique and proficiency shown, but never the less, is still a contributing factor to his overall sense of inadequacy and despondence. To have come so far and additionally overcoming his feelings of sexual inadequacy, chemical dependencies and youthful debauchery, in addition to the recent discovery that he is going blind, most probably from excessive ingestion of denatured Alcohol, requires that the person be honored for their growth

As you can tell from the above, I have nothing but the most profound respect for Mr. Jones and would gladly contribute funds to his book for things he may require, such as K-Y Jelly, etc, if he happened to get thrown in Jail.

I hope this answers your question!

BTW, welcome to the thread to scpaul and ant12hony. Glad to have you guys on board and posting. So many other viewers don't, but that's because they haven't got any cajones.

Normally djones would probably welcome you himself, however I understand that he has been working diligently on his new diet. Since he switched to Wheat Germ instead of snorting Milo dust, he has gone on a health kick and decided to lose about 60 pounds of ugly fat. My suggestion that he cut off his head went unanswered, but have to admire that he has decided to expend the effort.

After all, a waist is a terrible thing to mind!

Anyway, welcome!

I'm trying to figure out which direction from Florence your farmer friend must be. Back in 1977 I was sent up there to open the service dept. in a new office. It was on Second loop. Back then Second loop was about as far as town went. We rented a duplex over in Ebanezer just the other side of I-95. I killed a boar a few years back in Allendale that was paralelling me coming out, about 40 or so yds. back and probably 30 yds off to my left. I really thought it was a buck trailing me because I'd picked up all of my different scent pads, drippers etc. I had gotten some buck pee on me from a dripper that I'd been using for a false scrape. I'd stop so would he, this went on for about 400 yards. I got to the road and stopped just the other side, right beside a bush. He came out, slid down the bank into a shallow ditch and looked around and tried to wind me. The wind was in my favor at the road. I surgecally placed a 168 gr. Nosler Ballistic Silvertip at the base of his skull from his rt. front. He dropped rite there. The bullet shattered his spine just below the skull then went on to hit the inside of the his left shoulder. I was by myself of course. I had a little Kawasaki 250 Bayou and just about never got him loaded. My 4 wheeler trailer is 8" long, it'll hold a whole sheet of plywood. His nose was within inchs of the front edge of the trailer and if you streached his tail, it was within 6" of the back end. I figured him to be around 350 lbs. I've seen tracks much larger than his and they always have a bunch of little ones with them, so I figure that they're sows. We don't let the younger or greener hunters go to that piece of property alone. I've had my butt put up a tree 3 times in my life by a pig. I've done got old and slow, so now I keep a 3" magnum (.410) Judge on me and a .44 Bulldog on my 4 wheeler handlebars. I guess I'm going to have to get a camera so I can have pictures of my kills and my property. They stole my 4 wheeler last week and I'm having to call all of my friends for pictures, otherwise the ins. co. is going to put it to me. Then I might be the one needing the K/Y. Later Y'all, Paul

Was just wondering but if you are related then I can see some harassing is fine!!

The sick thing is is that I live in Canada (best place on earth(; ) and we cant hunt with AR15 and we dont have pigs but..... like hearing what u guys are doing!!

You might say that djones and I are friendly antagonists. We insinuate a lot, but neither of us takes it very serious. As far as being related, not in anyway related, but can understand the confusion since I refer to him as both Son and Mother depending on the situation. Both of these are abbreviations!....................:D

He is still working where I am retired, so I have more time to dream up things to call him and situations, most of which are fictitious, to put him in.

He is actually a pretty good hunter and if you go back to the start of the thread, and read through it, you'll find that he kills a lot of Hogs. He has gotten a lot better with my guidance, but he almost had the basics down before I intruded on his thread....LOL

The entire concept of this thread is that you can't take life too serious, you're not going to survive it anyway, so most of what is posted is meant in fun. I think that most of the 50,000 or so views come in to see what we are calling each other today and sometimes to see pictures of dead Hogs, when they are available.

You need to come down to Texas , or anyplace else that has Hogs and get a few yourself. I wish we had them here in Arizona too, but not sure what the ecological impact would be. Probably not good.

What are the rules as far as Rifles in Canada? No AR's?

Florence has grown since you were here last. We now have a 3rd Loop! We're up to about 45k in population. We have 3 public high schools, 2 super Wal Marts, a super Target, a mall, and more churches, banks, and BBQ restaurants than you can count. Honda's North American ATV plant is about 10 miles down I-95. GE makes the magnets for their MRIs here. For a small town, Florence has a lot going for it. We're 75 miles from Columbia, 80 minutes from Myrtle Beach, and 100 miles from Charlotte.

Hogs can get big around here, just not as often as other parts of the country. Some farmers have quit planting crops and have started planting pine trees. I don't think peanuts are planted as often as they used to, so the hogs aren't as easy to pattern as they once were. I've got access to 19 hunting stands, and only one has any hog activity.
