In the Ear? Really???

Really wasn't paying attention to what djones was saying so did set myself up for that one. OK, so that's twice I've done that, usually when preoccupied, against the 312th time djones has put his foot in his mouth on this thread alone.

On another subject, got a call today from the black sheep of the family, our cousin Harry who is a (Gasp) Attorney in Kansas City! Yep, we got one of those in the family....A total bottom feeder, a professional parasite, an ambulance chaser and numerous others. Guy is so lazy he puts Popcorn in his hotcake batter so they'll flip over by themselves.

He called to say he'd been talking to another cousin, Bob, whom I've talked about in this thread, to see if I was going to be heading down to the ranch in the near future and if there was some way to wrangle an invitation. I asked him what kind of rifle he had, and he said that was the other reason he called, because he wanted some advice on what to buy. Told him I'd think on it and get back to him.

Now Harry is one of those guys that I hate to say it, but I think somewhere back in the family there was a little inbreeding going on in the Arkansas branch of the family. He has the attention span of a gnat! He'll get all set to do something, then lose interest just about as fast. Changed majors in College 4 separate times and finally settled on the Law, which just goes to show how easy it is to get a Law Degree. Now Harry has a line of BS that just won't quit and the his clients love him and I have no idea where he gets that from, but I do know that everything he owns has to absolutely the best there is.

Give you an example. He bought a Brand new top of the line Cadillac, paid a fortune for it and when one of his friends drove in, in a brand new Mercedes, he sold the Cadillac to my brother in Kansas City, for less than half price, with less than 10,000 miles on it and went and got him a Mercedes 450 SL or whatever the sports car that Mercedes had out that year. OK?...typical

Now, my quandary is what do I recommend he buy, that I really want to have?...He'll go buy what I recommend, and we'll will take him out to break it in and zero it and after about 40 rounds (all in the same day) he'll be so sore that he'll lose interest in hunting hogs and I'll be able to pick it up for pennies on the dollar.

Suggestions?

As far as the message below, what he is saying is that he'll go out and have his picture taken with some dead hogs that someone else shot and then claim the credit.

going to have to get out for some pig killin over the next few days/weeks. why don't you stay behind with the wemmin and chirren where it's safe. perhaps you can keep folks entertained here while i make sure no harm comes to you and yourn

Now c'mon ya'll....I know someone has to have a pretty good idea of a Rifle to upgrade my collection. Thought about having Len here at LRH build him one, but aside from me, no one in the family is really interested in Long Range Shooting so don't know who I'd pass it on to. In Washington and Oregon, most of the hunting is done at less than 200 yards.

I know that there are a number of people on this thread that will belly up to claim it, trying to get put into my will, but I prefer to keep it in the family.

Heck, I'll even take a little (very little) direction from djones if he want to put in what his favorite is. Probably the .338 Savage, which is already under consideration, but don't know the pro's and Con's of the weapon..

Coy?...Seattle?... Brewer?.....Snox?.......I already know what double naught's is...But somebody?

Am serious about this!

I think you could recommend a 338 Edge or equivalent without the brake. A few shots with that and he would not want it for sure. Even better a 460 Weatherby. Or a LaRue 7.62 of some sort and by the time he got it in he would be out of the mood and you could pick it up cheap.

You could make a movie of him shooting the 460 so we could laugh along with you! Although I don't know if I would want one of those even if it was free. I tried one and I was too much a sissy to shoot it more than once. Nice hog gun, you could kill the whole sounder with one shot. Might take a few days before you could see em though.

if you're going to wind up getting the rifle, talk him into this one... TrackingPoint .338 TP

more important than the gun however is the guide. coy was hanging out with some of his super hero buddies and put them so close to the hogs they were even able to kill them with 223s.

DJ...I might end up BUYING the rifle from him and without Refi-ing the house, don't think I could come up with the $25 grand to buy it back off him. Need something a little less top of the line. Justification for just shooting a few hogs might be a little less. He asked me about a good HOG rifle, not something taken out of a Jet Fighter and guaranteed for up to a mile....Very nice Rifle though!

Figure I can get away with probably up to $7-8,000 with optics and since I sold the Super Match, can afford to buy it off him at 50-75% of what he paid for it.

Coy.....From the pictures you appear to be about 6' to 6'2" and weigh in at an estimated 220 or better and are too sissy to shoot one again?. I am barely 5'-8" and weigh in about 165. i don't want something that will slide me back 8' each round from the Prone position, which I never get to hunt from anyway. Will check out the 7.62 LaRue though. I want something I can shoot after I get it!

Thanks for the input...

Coy, what you charging for hog guiding these days? Since there is a recession, rates should have dropped...:D

Nice hogs there with even a 223.

Coy,
From the picture, looks like that Kibbles and Bits diet is working! You've lost quite a bit of weight over the last several months. HOWEVER if you get the urge to squat down and lick your ***, Make sure not to do it do in a street. We don't want you getting run over!.....:D

pretty sure coy is particular who he guides, but if he wasn't, i'm positive that last remark jacked YOUR price up.

Do you know Mr. Jones that remarks like that keep you right up near the top of the list of undesirable elements that I try to avoid. You rank somewhere between Hangovers and Hemorrhoids, which is somewhat higher, but not much, than my initial evaluation when I first joined this thread!.......

Coy probably, being the person he is, never would have thought of that without you reminding him.

Is there anyway to determine the actual date when I joined LRH? I know it was last May sometime, but don't know the exact date.

Also is there anyway to delete the total number of posts?...I guess in a year, thanks to djones, I've posted over 600 so how do I erase about 400 them?

It's been and interesting year, which would have been so much more boring if djones and I hadn't started our verbal exchange!

Thanks djones for being such a darn easy target to pick on!......ROFL

swamprat,
it's possible, but veeery tricky. if you're not experienced in these matters you could accidentally delete your entire account. pm me your password and i'll take care of it for you.

Let me get this straight.....You, my arch rival on this thread want me to give you my password so you can delete only certain portions of my account?....Yeah, Right!....You'd delete my entire account removing me from LRH and sending the Packrat into the nether regions of the internet.....Lost forever in the abyss of non existence.....Lost in ethereal space like a snake without a pit to hiss in!

BTW, Did you happen to get the License plate number of that turnip truck you think I fell off of?

Besides, I don't think you can do it anyway. Wouldn't mind if LRH deleted about 400 posts, but to turn it over to you.....Thanks, but no Thanks

I can just see your next post now......OOOPPPPPSSSSS, Wrong key!

Coy, checked into the 7.62 LaRue and it's looking pretty good. Only concern is one that djones posted a while back about the charging handle being hard to get to when using a NVD or High power scope.

Anyone else using a AR 10 version had any problems with this?
