as you know, i kid a lot... well... all the time. the guy that called me out may be full of it, but he did get me thinking. do i come across as a braggart? i just like seeing and sharing hog kill pics and having some fun while doing it. but he may be on to something. heck, even packratt has abandoned us. i'd appreciate an honest second opinion.

I don't think you came across as a braggart.

One of the problems with these internet boards is that one has zero way of knowing if the person hiding behind the posts actually knows what the hell they are talking about. I'd hope that the photos and info I post would let someone know I have some clue as to what I'm doing. I'd post a lot more photos but family life prevents me from getting to the woods more. With all of the photos DJ posts, I would say he knows that the heck he is doing.

Will a .223 kill pigs? Of course it will. Is it the "best" round for killing hogs? IMO - no. I prefer the 7.62/.308. It hits harder with a heavier bullet. As much as I dislike hogs, I never set out to intentionally cause more pain and suffering that needed and I prefer not to track. IMO, the .223 is sufficient if you can guarantee that you will have the ability to make head/eye/ear shots. Maybe I'm not living under a lucky star, but a number of my kill shots have been in the heart/shoulder area since I could not get a clear shot of the head/eye/ear. That's where the 7.62 shines.

the thing is, nothing i'm doing suggests i'm better than anyone else or even good at it for that matter. anyone who shoots can snipe an unsuspecting pig or two with nv equipment. or drive into them hanging out the window with a pistol or shotgun.

i just happen to have more opportunities than most folks and i probably like it more than most who do have such opportunities, so i do it a lot. i'm pretty excited to get any pigs, so of course i'm grinning ear to ear when i take a pic. i'd like to see lots of hog kill pics from everyone, but if others don't want to post them that's cool. i just don't get bashing someone who does post pics on a hunting forum and call it bragging.

but it's not my place to question why god made angry idiots. i'm sure he had his reason.

I don't know jones I like and am glad you post pics. Most peoplea just don't enjoy pig hunting like we must. All my friends think I'm crazy cause I would rather hunt them then about anything else and get a semi chub every time I get to kill a few.
Also I think your ok that motox801 guy made some great points even if he was stocking the fires. He's a brilliant guy and knows his stuff and he was sticking up for you so that's a good thing. Lol

i joined over there mostly for the AR forum. several folks share useful information. they don't have a hog forum but i just happened to see a hog thread in the big game section. now the guy to whom i originally responded, kms, who said there is no reason not to take a head shot, has now endorsed rio.

you gotta appreciate the irony here. kms posted a pic of a hog from 'when he was younger'. pic looks to be maybe 10 years old?? and even better... he knows a guy who shot an 80 pounder and a 100 pounder. im ashamed of myself for making fun of people, but that's just too funny.

I guess the best way to prove one's hog hunting ability is to constantly kill pigs. I think you're covered.

Seems those guys on the fire don't like you showing them up DJ. They are now after that amazing motox801 fella for posting the wrong bullet weight of the .223 partion. Also saying the 300 blk won't take out pigs while also say his .223 will hang with a 308. Lol gotta love the net. As I have all those calibers and my 300 does just fine. Even better than my .223 did with the right bullet. Seems they know a bit more about hunting than we do. Maybe that truckload of pigs guy does but man some peoples kids.

Your photos seem to turn out well. Do you usually have someone with you, or use a camera on a tripod with a delay?

i really need reading glasses to see the view finder, which i usually don't have while hunting. so i shine a flashlight on the left and right side of the hog and that shows up well enough in the camera for me to get it fairly centered. then i use the auto focus and enough delay for me to get in the pic.

often i kick up dirt when getting behind the hog and that shows up as specs in the pic. also the autofocus sometimes focuses on the truck instead of the pig, but it's good enough for the scrapbook. the camera might be on tripod, tailgate, ammo box or sandbag. it's been windy enough that i've ruined several cameras because the tripod blew over and the camera eats a lot of sand.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I'm going out this weekend but am a little more focused on turkeys as it is the opener Saturday and my girlfriend wants a turkey. That means I'm calling turkeys. Hopefully bacon wrapped turkeys !!

what life? all i do is hunt hogs. cept im sorta benched for now. hopefully out by weekend.
