26 Nosler Wildcats - 30 Nosler (308)

I've been away but you guys are doing great.

1) a 308/26-Nosler is not the same as a 30-Nosler. I chambered mine as a 308/26-Nosler.
2) I talked with Dave Kiff and Dave Manson about one reamer for them all with separate neck/throat reamers. Both said the same thing. It will work but it's a PIA and you won't save any money. My smith agreed.
3) You can rechamber 7mm RemMag to 28-Nosler, 30-06 can be rechambered to 308/26-Nosler or 30-Nosler. Change the bolt or bolt face and your good to go as far as shooting. You may need to do some magazine or feed work but it's not hard. On a Remington 700 you carefully open the feed rails to .560

Yes on the two reamers. The 30 cal(which is a 300 hawk) will be re chambered to 308 26 Nosler or 30 28 Nosler (I suspect they are basically the same, if not let me know which is best)
On the 7mm mag, I plan on staying with the factory barrel ( I have dropped plenty of whitetails with it) Later I may change out the barrel if the accuracy changes.

I have a question on dies for the 28 Nosler and it comes from something similar to what redding suggested on my 6.5 280 ackley dies. I will have to look to see which die was changed, but one of the two was an ackley 6.5-06 (they did not have my dies in both 6.5 280 AI). Redding suggested that I have a gunsmith run the reamer into the die to bring it to 6.5 280 AI.
With that in mind, could the 28 Nosler reamer be used on 7mm remington mag dies changing them to 28 nosler.

You can use a chamber reamer to make a bullet seating die.

You cannot use a chamber reamer to make a sizing die.

You can buy a resize reamer that you can use to make a sizing die.

I don't know about reaming an RCBS die. It may be hardened.

How bout using neck sizing bushings. I've read about these, but haven't got my head wrapped around how to do it. I'm only going to load for myself. A resize reamer sounds as expensive as the chamber reamer.
I'd rather buy the dies, but don't see them on the shelves yet.

I purchased a resize reamer for the 338/26-Nosler. I also have a PTG die blank.

My smith didn't want to tackle that job and added it to the recommendation that I get my lathe setup. Well, it's setup. I need a reamer holder and I'm good to go. I just have to work out the process...

First thing is to make a 338/26-Nosler body die. That will cover most of the other calibers for shoulder bump.

If from that I can make a bushing die, that can go down to the size needed for a 284/26-Nosler aka 28-Nosler then I can use it for the 308/26-Nosler as well.

If I get good enough turing steel things without ruining them I'll look into making seater dies but Lee WSM seater dies work really well in this application. I am seriously considering how to make a "micrometer" seater from the Lee dies.

Oh, I forgot something.

Why send a case out to have dies made when you can spend so much enjoyment/recreation time learning new things like tuning metal on a lathe.lightbulb

I've got a customer who wants to trade a small lathe for an ar parts kit, but he also would sell it for $300. The money is the better deal. But, I have more on my plate than I need at the moment. It seems I can have my 7mm Mag seating die reamed. So the idea of neck sizing hit me. Brass seems to be in short supply though

I have both reamers for a 7mm wildcat. Dave Kiff made them and it looks to be about 1.5 thousands. It is hard to measure them due to the position of the flutes. I didn't specify any measurement and left it up to the machinest.

I was reading on the 28 nosler thread about barrel life. Has anyone tried nitriding. I had my 6.5 280 AI barrel nitrided. It turned stainless coal black and a file will not score the outside.

Did you not get a reamer print for them?
