Way too sllooowwww.

Thanks
It works great in my 26 nosler with 143gr eldx bullets 3400 fps and under 1/2 moa

If you follow the rules, it may be worth a try. QL can be very wrong as well as very right on. It's not perfect, just another tool.

Here is my load with my first 28 Nosler. It liked 180gr VLD's and Retumbo. It would shoot 1/2" groups with this:

Berger 180 Gr VLD Load
82 gr. Hodgdon Retumbo Powder
CCI 250 Large Rifle Mag. Primer.
Muzzle Velocity: 3152 fps

My new 28 Nosler has a chamber with a tighter neck and longer throat. It's built on a SS Rem 700 with a 26" Proof Research carbon Fiber Barrel with a 1 in 8.44 twist. With a Leupold V6 4X24X52 scope, bubble level, a Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber Sporter stock and Titaniam directional muzzle break, it weighs 8 lbs 14 oz. Here is the load data that produces 1/2 inch groups:

Hornady 175 gn ELD-X Load
88 gr. RL 33 Powder
CCI 250 Large Rifle primer
Muzzle Velocity: 3154 fps

One thing I noticed with my first 28 Nosler is the barrel got 25 to 30 fps faster after 50 - 75 rounds & religious barrel break in cleaning. I expect the same with this one. I haven't finished my testing with this new rifle yet but this is the load I used this year for hunting.

My recommendation is to get a 26" barrel on your new 28, it will allow you to get the most out of this excellent cartridge.

What are your COAL?

Sorry, I should have provided that before. My first 28 Nosler had a SAAMI version chamber of the 28 Nosler.

Berger 180 Gr VLD Load
82 gr. Hodgdon Retumbo Powder
CCI 250 Large Rifle Mag. Primer
180 Gr Berger VLD
COAL 3.56...... 20 Thousands off lands
Muzzle Velocity: 3152 fps

My new 28 Nosler has a Match chamber with a tighter neck and longer throat. Here are the details

Hornady 175 gn ELD-X Load
88 gr. RL 33 Powder
CCI 250 Large Rifle primer
COAL 3.633...... 20 Thousands off lands
Muzzle Velocity: 3154 fps

Any one reading this should note that COAL in this bottom Hornady load will not work in a SAAMI chamber. In a SAAMI chamber the bullet will be jammed into the lands and cause excessive pressure. The COAL will have to be shortened to your camber throat length.

Got a question. What kind of accuracy can one excpect with the 175 grn pills? Nosler, Berger, Sierra, etc. Just asking. Thanks!

I have a Montana Rifle Company Rifle X2 that shoots the factory 175 ABLRs under an inch all day. I`m just getting into reloading but I am needing load data and COAL for 180 VLDs and RL33.

I recommend you not go with H1000. You will not get the velocities you will with Retumbo or RL33 and to do so will put your loads at too high a pressure.

I built my first 28 Nosler shortly have Fred did his, before any published data was available. Nosler's Reloading Guide #8 now show the following max loads and velocities:

H1000 79grs 3103
Retumbo 82grs 3166
RL33 88grs 3211

Using QuickLoad (a newly acquired tool) the max load is:

H1000 80.5grs 3031

Before knowing this I did extensive testing in my first 28 Nosler with 175 gr ABLR's and obtained the data in the file below with a 25.5" Hart #3 barrel with a 1 in 9 twist:

NOTE: Everything past 79grs in this data is over pressure and should not be used. Standard reloading practices say that with a magnum cartridge, you have reach your maximum load when you have reached a case increase (measured where the belt would be with the 28 Nosler) of 0.0006 to 0.0007". I did not know that at the time and since I did not have a sticky bolt (new chamber) or see significantly flattened primers I kept going past 79 grains. I did see plunger marks and extractor marks starting at 80grs to the last but discounted that because I heard Nosler brass was soft.

While I did see the best group with 83gs of H1000 it was way over pressure.

Both Retumbo and RL33 provide better velocities with lower pressures and for me showed similar accuracy. I will share my Retumbo and RL33 load data tomorrow.
