I think many of the new rounds are products of marketing more than anything. Faster twist rates with older rounds accomplish the same thing as many of these hot new rounds. Many are searching for a new magical round that prevents misses and is fatal with a hit to the toenail.
Now is yours the 8x50R French Lebel or is it the 8x56R? The reason I ask is because my friend bought one about 8-10 years ago when they were selling them for under $100.00 around here. I helped him locate everything for loading it and we loaded up a bunch of the ammo for it. Grafs is who I went with to get the components for it. When I slugged the bore I also remember it being .330" and not the .318 or .323 that the Germans used in the 8x57I'm working on a Styer M95 Mannlicher Carbine (8x50 mm) right now. I've had it over 50 years, it's been in the family for a 100 or more. Until 2 weeks ago, it just sat in the safe…..got a "wild hair" to look for components (ammo non-existent), and get the bore cleaned up. The bore initially looked like a dirty sewer line, and after 2 weeks of soak/scrub repeat…..it's looking much better! memtb
The 7.6 Creedmoor is actually called the 30 TC (Thompson Center). It was a flop because it didn't have the velocity that the 308Win had. It was all but dead until they necked it down to .264".I've decided that a creedmoor is really all a man needs.
Got a 22-250? replace it with a 22 creedmoor.
243 win? --> buy a 6mm creedmoor
257 bob? sell that sucker and get a 25 creedmoor
260 rem? hahaha you know the answer to that one!
270 win? well, hmmm maybe you got me there, I'm sure some one is working on it though!
7mm-08? there's a wildcat 7mm creedmoor for that!
308 win? --> 7.6 creedmoor of course! (don't tell me it doesn't exist)
A creedmoor is all you need...
30-06. Heard so many kids when I was growing up and even now that had to get a 30-06 to hunt deer just like their dad. It's like you have to have a 30-06 to be a man. Saw fathers give their young son a 30-06 at the range and after they shot it, they didn't want to shoot anymore.
Also all the Creedmoors. Hornady just copied all past good cartridges.
Love too many cartridges to list.
The 30-06 is deadly, but a flinch reaction in a youngster is detrimental. I have chosen a different approach for my children & you are exactly correct!Ah yes the 30-06. Nothin like teaching your youngin to shoot while giving them a flinch that will last decades in the process. Lol
you're not off the hook yet, lol !Oh boy, I have a creedmoor I was actually going to shoot today but now I think I'll change plans and pull something like a 45-70 out to keep from ruining my self respect
You mean it doesn't penetrate thru 3 bison standing end to end?you're not off the hook yet, lol !
the 45-70 is just as overglorified and super hyped up as the 6.5 Crud

I believe Hornady does or did make factory loaded ammo.
I can tell you one thing though, that thing thumped my shoulder pretty hard with that metal butt plate.

Man you are mistaken, that 6.5 crapmore is more power full than that 300wm. It will kill 3 generations of African elephants in Tanzania with one shot and you don't even have to leave the US because it's so flat shooting. Its case design creates a vortex like a jet engine that sends the bullet down the barrel and Mach 8. It's so powerful you can miss close and still kill an elk just from its pressure wave.No that's a 300wm. The only caliber that's worthy enough to kill todays modern elk wearing level 4 body armor… anything less is just plain irresponsible..
I have one and love that thing!
It has a factory muzzle break so when I shoot it in the front yard, it's like a magnum leaf blower and clears all the leaves off for 2 blocks.
I just need a yard I can shoot inI need you to come shoot in my yard
I was thinking I had to upgrade my .300wm as we have all heard the 6.5cm has better ballistics. No that's a 300wm. The only caliber that's worthy enough to kill todays modern elk wearing level 4 body armor… anything less is just plain irresponsible..

But wait, perhaps I should buy something in a PRC variant as Belted cases are no longer any good.
It's only a matter of time until the replace the classic .375H&H with a new super duper wildcat come legitimate.375prc. Move over .338lapua and .50BMG there's a new sniper round that doesn't just fill the gap it makes these existing rounds redundant because it has PRC on the headstamp. Faster, Flatter, Fatter, better
