What 22cal would you build?

I suppose a .22-250 is also "boring", but that's what I'm building. A Shilen Alternut heavy contour barrel is being fitted by Shilen to a Rem 700 action, Sako extractor, Jewel trigger, McMillan A5 stock. https://www.shilen.com/alternutbarrels.html Who knew that Shilen would fit their barrel to my action and return ship it? Expecting it by early 2023, they are 6 to 8 months out. The Alternut is a extended threaded portion on the receiver end that accepts a Savage type barrel nut. This is different that the Remington system where the barrel must be precisely shouldered for the headspace.

This link has photos showing the Remington shank with the shoulder and the extended threads for a Savage or pre-fit type barrel nut:https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/questions-on-savage-style-barrel-nut.232975/

.220 redline. It's a saum necked down. 75 amax at 4K haha.

Or do something really different - neck down a 6.5 rem mag/350 rem mag to 220 just for fun. Maybe give it a double radius shoulder. The .223 weatherby magnum that never was….

Belted just to annoy the people that say it shouldn't be! 🤣

Reminds me of a long deceased old lady from my former church. She never touched a drop of booze in her life as far as I know. But she had a collection of shot glasses displayed just to stick it to the people that would say she shouldn't have something like that back in the day 🤣

Might as well do a 22wsm hahaha.

But honestly I'm trying to stay away from slow burning powder hungry cartridges on this endeavor. A 308 size case or smaller is all I want to deal with.

I think 22cm makes the most sense. If I can get 3500fps with an 80gr I'd be happy.

What 224 caliber would yall put together and why? What would the "build sheet" look like?

This rifle will be used to fling +70gr bullets into hogs and coyotes out to about 800yds. Coyotes will not be used for fur.

I have 1 223rem tikka and I really like it but it's pretty bland. Im thinking about building/putting together something a little faster in velocity and with a faster twist barrel for the higher BC bullets. I'm also tired of feeding retumbo and RL26 and magnum primers into my magnums just to kill hogs.

My father has a 220 swift.
Hunting partner has a 22-250
I had a 223ai but sold everything for it. I'm just looking for something more than a 223 and that doesn't need 70gr of powder.

I'm basically starting from scratch and looking for ideas.
22 Creedmoor. Best all around hunting 22cal available, and I've played with them all. The only place it doesn't work well is in a colony varmint situation. They get too hot, unless you don't mind burning up barrels. (I don't ;) )

Best brass in the world is available for it, and you can run an 80gr berger at 3450 without breaking a sweat. Lethal on coyotes, hogs, pronghorn, and deer.

Flip that's cool…but a .30-06 is only 63mm long I think….does necking it down that far stretch it out a bunch?

I know the folks at gs custom bullets made a .22-06 over a decade ago and used it with their 40 grain monometal on all kinds of big game.
Yes Sir you are correct it is 63mm,,,,,, I'm getting old

In that case run the 22 Cheetah

Barrels are like tires....they wear out! But that doesn't mean I want to do burnout competitions every weekend lol.

This rifle will be used mostly as a "cheaper" alternative for hog control out to 600-800yds across an open wheat field from an elevated box blind. 2 maybe 3 well placed shots a morning.

What do you recommend for barrel length in the 22cm? This rifle won't be suppressed so a 26" barrel is fine if that's what it needs. What kind of speed are you seeing from the 75-85gr bullets?
