What would you do??

What I am going to suggest is based on the assumption you can simply switch out the present stock for a new one and it's a "drop in fit" and doesn't require to be glass bedded. This advice is not applicable if you MUST send them your rifle to have them install the correct new stock on your gun, or if for any reason simply switching stocks on your gun will not work.

If when I spoke with them and I explained my displeasure with the mistake in a firm but completely respectful and civil manner and they were upfront apologetic and admitted their mistake and asked what can we do to rectify the situation and make you happy I would propose they send me a new stock free of charge and once I hand the stock and confirmed it fit with no issues and the rifle shot as well as I had a right to expect, I would offer to split the cost of sending the incorrect stock back to them. If getting them to send you your correct stock requires anything more than a simple request I would also expect them to pay to ship the old stock back to them.
If you have to send the entire rifle then without doubt they should pay to have it shipped over night to them as that is the most secure way to ship a firearm.

I purposely did not mention the vender, & I contacted them ASAP when I saw the mistake, so mentioning rule 7 does not apply here in my opinion! My question was kinda along the lines of the TV program, What would you do, maybe venting a little, but curious too?? There actually was another thing that I`m not happy about but mentioning it would likely give the Gun makers identity away, so I`ll keep that as my business. I will update after they call or do not call me back Monday as I was promised! I was actually a little put out they did not have the salesman call me right back the same afternoon as I made them aware of the mistake!!!

The fact that you consulted the forum means to me that you were agonizing over what to do. I don't blame you. Let's face it guys, getting a custom rifle for us is like bridezilla picking out a wedding gown (and probably costs about the same, on average). It's an emotional, testosterone-laden affair, and if something is not right, it hurts.

Anyway, I think about my issue with that Cooper stock. The smith maybe wasn't the person who screwed up on the stock blank. Maybe it was a nice lady in another department who had a bad day and erroneously specified the wrong wood? Stuff happens. That's why I give them a chance to make it right - initially. Bridezilla may not be as forgiving, but we need to lead by example.

OK my salesman contacted me Monday & maybe we were both a little confused, they have 2 standard colors, listed in separate areas for the same long range rifle? He said rifle would have to be returned to install new stock, & they would gladly pay all shipping involved, but might take up to a month for complete turn around? He then offered a solution we both could live with addressing all my concerns so I`ll learn to like the black & gray stock! LOL I`ll have updates when I have time to shoot it!! Thanks for all your suggestions & comments!

I would just order another rifle with the tan stock... maybe in the other cartridge you were thinking about going with lol

This rifle is my 3rd 300 win mag, don`t really need it, let alone any other calibers right now!! LOL
Hogwash! It would have been totally irresponsible to not get that rifle and you know it! Don't give us that malarkey!
