I thought we agreed that the 44 Rem Mag was the best. Except when you don't believe in revolvers, in which case it isn't. ???

My vote is still w/ 460SW. It allows for 45 colt,454 casull and 460 all shot out of the same cylinder. Practice w/ the 45 colts. shoot the 454 casull or 460 SW so you know what to expect re : recoil and target acquisition if and when you ever have to use it, use hard cast lead bullets and last but not least shoot it a lot so it becomes an extension of your body and the recoil is manageable whether its the casull rd or the 460.

I almost went 460, but ended up with the Casull. The muzzle blast is worse than the recoil. I'd only shoot it without earplugs to save life & limb. Because I think it would leave me deaf.

Power and versatility are what the 460 is all about! From right to left: 300 grain "plinkers", 400 grain maxed-out, and a shot shell (equivalent to 2 1/2" 410 - using full-length .444 Marlin Mag case). The shot shell is nice for small game and pine grouse, often found when you're elk hunting. Though, for a defense handgun, I'd recommend 5" or shorter barrel! memtb

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the all coppers penatrator bullets? I know they won't hit as hard as a 305 grain hard cast but they should recoil quite a bit less. My mountain gun is quite a handful with hot 305s!

"We recommend considering the 140gr Xtreme Penetrator first, we prefer the combination of deep penetration and wounding for big bear and an added bonus is the lower recoil compared to heavier loads. The Hard Casts are wonderful classic options as well but focus solely on penetration without much wounding"

That's a wicked bullet. It does penetrate and stays fully entact with no deformation to speak of. I've used them I'm my 20 and they feed great and are very controllable to shoot. There making good velocity and even energy if I remember correctly. I shot a 6 shot group at 50 yards a few months ago and they were very accurate in my pistol. I've shot a hog with them and it exited the hog thru both shoulders. Hog went 10 yards. Shot was at 50 yards.

I know Shawn, I was sent a pic of one a guy got on his game camera in June, it was in Dern Draw about 3 miles from my house they will be in my back yard anytime in there not already.

Judging by the size of his knoggen compared to his body he looks hungry. But really nice looking bear.

Back in the 70's and 80's this was the talk.

If modern semi-autos were jamamatics our military and police would still be carrying wheel guns.
Fast forward to 2020 and semi-auto pistols are extremely reliable.
Carry what you like.

Never heard a .mil member brag about the reliability of the M9 and especially its magazines.

I would love to have/carry a .460 but five shots for the weight of good pump shot gun killed my justification
