It's the same gas system as on an AR. Only differences are the barrel length and the buffer spring is in a tube instead of a standard AR stock. You can still swap uppers and lowers. The one pictured is a Bushmaster Carbon Pistol.
Look around for prices. I got a barely used AR-15 pistol for $475 at one of the local gun stores.

Yeah, but what I don't really like is the buffer spring assembly sticking out the back. Would rather have a standard pistol configuration. Am actually better with a pistol than a rifle, or at least I was. Didn't do too badly at the range yesterday, but only popped a total score of 213 instead of 250 with the Para with 25 rounds. Used to shooting a .45 1911 configuration and the only reason i got the Para, was 13 rounds instead of 7 or 8. Can only load 10 rounds and don't have to change mags 3/4 of the way through the competition.
Was just thinking of a .223 Pistol which I'm not sure will work in the same way as a regular auto. To my way of thinking, the .223 is a *** Rifle round, but may make a great pistol round. Less drop at 25 and 50 yards, and heavy enough that if i miss, can always throw it....
Darn gun stores won't give you an 100 round test drive.....LOL

The .223 isn't the greatest round for hog hunting, but it does pretty well at shorter ranges, and I go for head shots. I've got access to a couple of spots (smaller than a basketball court) in the middle of pine growths. I've got a tree stand in each of them. I've got the stands placed so about 40 yards would be my farthest shot. I'll take the AR pistol because it is so maneuverable or my Mossberg semi 12 ga. I use the Barnes bullets for the .223 or 00 buckshot for the 12 ga. I wouldn't use the .223 for longer shots.

might want to tap the brakes on your fixation with hog hunting. it's sooo... well.... 2014!!
i've moved in another direction. remember the 223 i shot the hog in the neck with last december because it had my 308 can on it? i only wounded that hog and had to put the can back on the 308 and finish it off. well i just got the dedicated 223 can in and have switched to coyote hunting.
i got a response to a howl and went right in to a coyote pup distress. an opportunistic bobcat thought he'd take advantage of the hurt pup and attacked my decoy. i killed the cat to keep it from carrying off my mojo.

Not at all like it seems! I have the utmost respect for Mr. Jones and his ability to shoot and hunt hogs and other critters. I also admire his tenacity. To have come up so far from his truly humble beginnings in Cesspool Flats, OK to his present position as a Sewage plant Operator 4 took on his part a truly admirable effort to overcome. Sometimes it is hard to remember that in the portion of Texas where he lives, he is educated above the majority of the populace, which can be evidenced by the grammar expressed on the posts he has made over the last 19 months or so. Unfortunately, he never learned to use the "Spell Check" function on his computer and has to be occasionally excused of unintentional oversight of the correct spelling and enunciation.
I do truly envy him the fact that he has something he is able to hunt year round, and which has become his major "claim to fame". Thankfully LRH posted a Hog Forum where he can at least partially satisfy his urgent need to be honored and admired for something! While the before mentioned, "Claim to Fame" may not be something that those younger of you viewers would attach much value to, you have to understand that when you get into your late 50's and early 60's, you inadvertently start pondering what you have contributed to society as a whole. At that age, Women attach less value to some of you as a sex partner, which generally is based on the lack of technique and proficiency shown, but never the less, is still a contributing factor to his overall sense of inadequacy and despondence. To have come so far and additionally overcoming his feelings of sexual inadequacy, chemical dependencies and youthful debauchery, in addition to the recent discovery that he is going blind, most probably from excessive ingestion of denatured Alcohol, requires that the person be honored for their growth
As you can tell from the above, I have nothing but the most profound respect for Mr. Jones and would gladly contribute funds to his book for things he may require, such as K-Y Jelly, etc, if he were incarcerated.

what a coincidence. i get numerous PMs a day also asking if we're feuding; however, my PMers say that if we are, they're on my side! i also get a lot of questions asking why i haven't pulled your britches down and spanked your pink little bottom... to which i reply, i don't want to see or be anywhere near your soggy bottom.

It's a beautiful thing when guys can get together and share their feeling. Kinda reminds me of the relationship I have with my sister. When she call me, she greets me with a pig snort. I greet her with a cow's moo when I call her.
I like LHR's message boards so much more than some of the others I visit. You will never find this level of good natured banter on the other pages. When I was reading some of the exchanges the other night and laughed out loud, my wife asked me what was so funny. After reading some of the exchanges to her, she said she married a 7 year old. I must be getting better since she used to say she married a 5 year old.

Glad you enjoy the banter, which in spite of sometimes getting a little raw, usually is meant in good humor.......At least on my part!

Just as a side note, You must have got all the clarifier screens washed and are caught up at work. I think this is the longest post you've furnished in quite a while! AND some of the spelling is correct, too! Wondered how long you would have gone without my subtle hints, to find the Spell-Check Option on your computer......
