Years ago, I was sitting in a climbing stand during deer season. I had a young doe with 1 fawn come out and walk down the logging road that I was watching. The deer might have been 100 yds. down the road when a bobcat stepped out from the same trail that they did. He couldn't see then. He went the same way that they did. I kept watching because the cat still had a couple of other ways to go. He followed them down one of the last trails and logging roads. From about 200 yds. I did a Texas Heart shot with a 30-06 loaded with pretty warm 150 gr. Nosler BT's. loads. There was a very large V shaped blood splatter in the logging road and at the base of his ribcage his backbone was the only thing holding the front part to the back part. He shouldn't have put a stalk on that fawn. He never did it again, guaranteed! Paul

coy,
i've already got a stuffed cat. i could prolly handle the kid, but i really don't wanna tangle with his dad.

Anyone killed any hogs lately? It has been raining here for the last week, so the floods have prevented me from accessing my hunting spots.

I just registered my hog hunting spots with the SC DNR for night time hunting. I have to wait 48 hours before I can start hunting. I'll post any kills I get.

The property owners have not caught any hogs in the traps for 2 weeks, so they are throwing in the towel for a while. Time to shoot some hogs!

On Monday night, we had a squall roll through, dropping about 2.5" of rain in a little over an hour, so the already soggy dirt roads were reduced to muddy paths. Combine that with the logging trucks that are taking out pine trees, and some of the dirt roads are almost too bad to drive.

On Saturday morning, I'm going to head to a new spot to possible construct a wooden trap. SCPaul was kind enough to send photos, so I think I'll give it a try. My new spot is sandwiched between two wildlife management areas, so hopefully the hogs will be plentiful.

Any packrat sightings lately?

Hay Scrambler, don't be surprised if it takes a couple of weeks or rains to get your scent off of it. Maybe wipe it down with something like a sour mash, maybe a little pig crap or deer pee on your boots. Might help it start producing faster.

still hacking up pieces of my lungs, but not too sick to help some guys get on a few hogs. blondie was shot at about 310 yards. the other took off and buddy nailed it in the ear on the run at about 150 offhand with a gunwerks 6.5-284. it's bad mojo for hogs.

Nice shooting DJ!

My "month" of freedom is over. My wife got an ear infection after she and her mom got in a argument, so my wife and daughter are now back home.

Planning on going out tomorrow morning to saturate a few areas with corn.

scram, i might have missed it, but did you ever get to check out the thermal when the wife was gone??

i entered the turn row and immediately spotted these hogs. the soft sand afforded effortless stalking... until i was out of cover. then i had to step through dry twigs to see over the berm well enough to shoot. it was just too loud to get a good line of sight, so i had to stop when i could just see the pigs, even though there were some weeds to shoot through.

i expected them to run to the right for the close cover, and i was ready for them. i got two more just before they disappeared. some also ran left, but i wasn't high enough to see clearly over the berm. plus the stalks did a good job of hiding most of them. still, i managed to get one of the larger ones with a lucky shot.

this pig was cutting through a field and wasn't stopping anytime soon. i decided to chase him and could have easily run him down and shot him with a pistol, but i wanted to get the shot on video. when he stopped, i turned the truck so he was right out my window. i only used a few seconds to grab the rifle, however, when i looked through the scope he was running back the other way. he was some distance out, so i didn't waste any time. i leaned out the window and started shooting. he took several hits and changed directions a couple times. i leaned out even farther and had to tilt the rifle, but i stayed on him until he was down for good.
