Hornady ELD-X Official Thread

.....
Why such a slow twist instead of going with a 1:10?

That's a factory barrel and the standard twist (the only one available...) is 1 in 11". No choice there. :)

.....The 220's are made with people who are single loading and have long throats in mind.

I am single loading (no magazine). :D

.....If I had to guess I'd say with that barrel the 200gr or lighter will work better for you than the 212's but you never know till you start working up loads.
On the paper the 200's looked like the heaviest to be stabilized by that TR and would probably do pretty much the same as the 212, for my own use.

.....Hornady is real good about answering the phone and helping people out so you might just want to give them a call for twist rate suggestions.

I am gonna e-mail them and see what their thoughts are... :)

TY

I don't know what elev. you will be shooting at, but you may be forced to stick with the 200's as the eldx is a very long bullet. The seating depth appears to be less critical with the eldx than with vld's. I would think you could use pretty much the same loads as with the amax. I don't have a 7 mag so have no input on starting loads. Good luck!.......Rich

Hi Rich, most of the time we hunt between 3k and 5/6K feet.

I was reading your post on the 215's Hybrid and got a box lined-up for reloading...
I decided to trust in your experience so do not let me down now.... :D :D :D

Why did you bring the 7mm up ? :D
I did not mention that and have no intention to... :D

That bites us all from time to time.

I wanted to check a rifle last night before heading out to finish up evening chores, set a target out at a hundred and put three rounds in a dime sized hole, one just outside of it and the other a good 2" off because I just couldn't get steady.

On the way out however I came up on a herd of 9 pigs and managed to kill seven of them before they could make it out of the wheatfield with the last two still running and being killed well outside of 400yds.

Sometimes I just hate shooting paper!

Very nice! Yep that **** flinch can really irritate a guy!

I have a custom 7rem. mag with a hart 9 twist I was wanting to know if that will work with the 175's eld-x, I notice on the box it says I need a 8.5 twist so I didn't buy them.

thanks

Hi Jotrot. I will be moving back to Cd'a soon. I lived there for many years. If you are hunting in that area, you should be fine with a 9 twist. They list 8.5 twist for the sea level guys (flatlanders):D

Has anyone heard news of 6mm or .270cal ELD-X bullets being released in the future? Just curious, keep the thread going, lots of good stuff so far.
