I have used mostly H1000 or Retumbo with cci BR-2 or F210 primers. The length of the 160 Matrix is 1.49", the 142 Matrix is 1.380". I use the same die setting for both bullets as the nose is the same, just a little longer for the heavy bullet.

NO kidding? Only 1.49" I've been patiently waiting for that measurement:rolleyes: I was guessing somewhere between 1.5-1.6 as the 140CEB is 1.510".

What is the bearing length?

Mark, we have another potential candidate :D

Here is a pic of the 6.5 Sherman next to the "partially" formed 6.5 SS
The SS is only necked to .270 at this point and does not have the body taper blown out or the shoulder changed to .264 but this will give you the idea. I believe it will duplicate the 6.5 Sherman ballistically in a true short action which will allow the long bullets to fit in a 2.8" magazine and be seated to the lands......Rich DSCF0498.jpg

I apologize if I missed it but; what is the parent case of the 6.5 SS?

Rich, if you're talking about the 6.5 Dakota, I chickened out  Decided to try a WSM with nitrided barrel first. If the barrel life works out good I'll try the Dakota. Powder was another issue. With RL33 on the scene, it makes it a lot more interesting. The 6.5 WSM should be on line in about 6-8 weeks.

I am doing a 270 Montana based off the 300 Dakota. Dies are ordered and when I get some bullets seated for neck measurements, I'll order a reamer.

Hope you make it to one of the Townsend shoots gun)

Sounds like you have a plan! It would be fun to come to a shoot and meet everybody......rich

Could be TJ, but if it is only 1.49" long, how is that going to affect BC? It looks sleek enough.
The bearing length is important IMO with these heavy bullets as it affects pressure. My understanding is that was the reason that Sierra stopped offering the 155 SMK.

160 Matrix=.644
