I'll be watching your progress... sounds like a good pill for a 6.5 Dakota... kinda skeptical bout the BC though

The more that get shot the better idea we'll have on the BC but the numbers line up decent. The .277 165 Matrix runs about .120 BC over a 150 Berger, if you apply that to the 6.5 cal which I know is rough but does give you an idea, the 160 6.5 Matrix is a better ballistic design than the .277 cal 165 and 20gr heavier than the 140 Berger so you can kinda guess a range to start from.

We've shot the 6.5 Sherman with the 160 and the 270 WSM with the 165 side by side same range and same wind and at nearly the same velocity with the same zero, and the 6.5 is spanking the 270, as much as it pains me to say that

The more we shoot the more we learn with each bullet we try!

Best spankin' you've ever had:D:D.......Rich

Will these 160 grain matrix stabilize from a 1:8 twist 6.5x284 at 2500' ASL? If so i might have about 500 142 SMK for sale.:D gun)

EDIT: i answered my own question, i have about 500 142 SMK for sale................ Is there a limit on how many you can buy from Matrix?

By the numbers they should run a 1.5 stability at 0 elevations, 59 degrees and 2800fps but sometimes you get a surprise, I may get another 6.5 barrel and crash my 6.5x284 reamer into it and find out gun)

See my edit, how many bullets did you get from matrix? How much per 100? This might be my saving grace for my 1k sod poodle goal. gun) And my throat is so eroded on my 6.5x284 that with the 142 SMK touching the lands i only have about .020 in the neck so with this bullets long bearing surface it shouldnt be a problem touching the lands. lightbulb

Well, that's saying something

I guess I should not have been gloating last year when I would blow his targets over with my 270 after he bounced 6.5 140 Bergers of them, that 160 6.5 should do very rude things to an elk at longer ranges :D

Seriously guys, with the success I had killling some 25 bulls over the years with a 6.5 to the 600 yard range with 140's, these 160's at 3050 are the real deal if expansion proves out. Maybe I'll have to break down and build some 6.5, 160 SXR's if I can find enough $$$$ in the cookie jar:D......Rich

Hey Rich, how fast do you think i will be able to push the 160s from a 6.5x284 with a 30" barrel? I have a very long throat on this rifle and with the 160 matrix seated to the lands i should have about .21" of the bullet shank in the .284" long neck. Marshal said he was going to send me a sample to see how my rifle likes them before i commit to 500 of them. Thanks for the lead guys!!!
