Weatherby's new 6.5 RPM cartridge

I loaded up some 156gr Bergers and R26/BR2 primers at 3.410",

I had some Labradar issues when I got to the range, shot the 63.0/63.5 loads and both groups were at about 3/4" but no velocity readings, back to the range a cpl days later with a new LabRadar the 64.0/65.0gr loads shot really well.

63.0grs Labradar error .85" group
63.5grs Labradar error .75" group

64.0grs- 3045/3029/3031 from a clean barrel

after a scope adjustment, 65.0grs- 3061/3072/3070

I'm a little surprised they're not going faster. Figured if Rich's 6.5 Sherman runs around 3150, the RPM would at least get there. Unexpected velocity aside, that's an awesome group!

Think I will keep my 264 mag rifles. They have been performing beautifully over the years. Since 1964. If it ain't broke don't fix it. When Barnes came out with the mono they got better. Now the Hammer bullet's. Can't imagine the new Wby killing any deader. Another new 6.5 while my 264's have never failed me. I'l save my money for powder & bullets.
Basically the same performance from either cartridge, nothing wrong with the 264 win mag
The RPM just give the option of using a standard bolt face action.

My first stab at reloading for it, I've loaded a string up from 65-68.0 grains so I'll see when or if I get pressure, it will be interesting to see where the velocity goes.

Nice shooting Don,has the range been busy?,kelly

Ok I got out with my Gunsmith Gary Flach to do a little shooting the last cpl of days, we were lucky enough to find a spot to shoot 100/700 and 800 yards, we were shooting 12 inch square steel plates at 700 & 800 yards, wind was was very erratic but with spotting for each other we could correct and hit the plates with consistency,

I ask Gary how many MOA to raise for 800 yards with my 6.5 RPM using Berger 156gr Elite Hunters doing 3068fps....he says go 14.5MOA I shoot and whack the 800 yard plate in the middle, I checked the Berger Ballistic Calculator it was 14.59MOA !

I ran a string up from my load of 65.0grs of R26/BR2 Primers, New Wby brass (thanks todbartell) and 156gr Berger Elite Hunters

65.0-3068
65.3-3089
65.6-3108
65.9-3126
66.2-3145-slight tight bolt lift
66.5-3148-slight tight bolt lift and light ejector marks, I stopped there.
