7mm sherman max

Did some testing of the 151 Cayuga this morning at 600 yards. First up was 69.0 grains of H1000, seated at 3.100 OAL. This load is consistently in the 3045 to 3050 fps range.

Thought I'd try the RL23 again in tighter increments. Same seating depth.

64.0- 3079 fps
64.3 - 3085 fps
64.6 - 3098 fps
64.9 - 3115 fps
65.2 - 3120 fps
65.5 - 3138 fps.

I've got shiny ejector marks (but no denting) on all of them, bolt lift is normal.I shot these 6 rounds (below) at 600 yards, nice group while looking for a node, wish I knew what order they were in…..

Here's the brass from the 65.5 grain load, ejector mark is on the M in Sherman:

Looks like there's a couple potential nodes between 64.0 and 64.3, and between 64.9 and 65.2. Would you chase the extra 30 to 70 fps of velocity with RL23 or stick with the H1000? Not sure how RL23 stacks up for temp sensitivity…

I did continue pushing the RL23 up to 67.0, which maxed out at 3216 fps, still normal bolt lift, but the groups opened up quite a bit.

The stated G7 bc of 0.310 for the 151 Cayuga appears to be right on, I plugged it into Strelock with my LabRadar velocity and it was right on for elevation with 29.7 clicks at 600 yards.

Just shot my 7Max this morning out to 1,000 yrds…..still shooting 1/4 minute. Load is 63.0 gr. of RL23, .02 off (3.056" OAL), G215M primer, which pushes my 180 VLD-H at 3,031 ft/sec. Heading to NTO shooting school at the end of this month and can't wait to pet her on display. Was at 22.0 MOA at 1,000 yrds at 20 degree angle (up). Really impressed with this round!

Has anyone done a 6mm on the Max case? If so, what was your experience?
I think the only one I have seen is on a SS not max.

But I think even a SS let alone a Max would be wickedly devastating on game with either a 101 HH or 102 MTH and the 100 SBD2 has the highest mono g7 @ .307. Running a 7 tw or a slight gain tw 7.75-7tw 5r to help with any cup-n-core bullets integrity. Basically you can predict it would be 100 fps less than a 6.5 @ the same bullet weight for predictive vel. Running N570 RL33 RS LTR.

Either way mid range impact vel of over 3200 are a different animal.

Yes, I have a reamer for the 6mm max. I can't remember for sure but I think mv was up to 3600 with a 110
So the 100s would run 3700-3750? The HH and CEB seem to run equal with jacketed and the badlands like Barnes.

Now the question is who dares to run 6mm Mega. 600 rd throat life but what ±4k fps?

If it was not for the turned monos........

To track rounds, I use colored sharpies and cover up to just below ogive. With black target you will need to use white paper underneath - you may get color transfer to the back of target but I've never done to confirm
