6.5 prc vs 264 wm

I have just gotten my .264 back and shot it a couple times with ELDs.
It is a Savage with a Shilen 26" 1-7 twist, stainless barrel.
I've some Sierra 150s and Vihtavouri 24N41, Norma 217, H870 and H1000 to try out.
The belt doesn't harm anything as you should headspace on the shoulder, anyway.
If you object to the belt, the PRC is your choice.
The throat was extended .160".
Have fun,
Gene
If he objects to the belt.....go with a 26 Nosler

morning, any cartridge developed after the 264win. is
a high bred. the old workhorse will survive. been around
since the 50's. persons can develop all of the 6.5's
the industries want to make money. the 264win.
is here to stay. justme gbot tum.

I have a 6.5 creedmoor. 264 w.m and a 26 Nosler all 3 are great but there is a big step up between the creedmoor and the w.m. personal choice good luck

Yes there is and that is a good question.

PRC is proprietary brass meaning only Hornady currently makes it. So that means that the brass is always out of stock and the factory ammo is limited in variety and availability.

I do not know when I last saw 264 Win Loaded ammo but the brass is in stock more often than PRC. Sadly with 6.5 being the trendy thing in competition shooting and in hunting all of your 6.5 cartridges other than Remington 260 are always boom and bust in terms of brass. So one month it is fine then you can not find brass at any price for 2-3 months then it fine again.

So I would look long and hard at who makes brass for what and how often it is unobtainable. If you are type that buys 3000 pieces of brass at a time then it does not matter.

I looked at 3 or 4 large hunting and shooting stores and none of them had PRC loaded ammo or brass for sale. Just yesterday and posted the links to prove it was unobtainable right now easily even for online orders! LOL

Most your questions have been answered, I'll just throw in my experience with a .264 wm.

Using Retumbo, Federal 7mm rem mag brass, and CCI large rifle mag primers, it is sending 147 eld-m's at 3240 fps into tiny groups and low s.d.'s. It has a 26" 7.5 twist barrel. I have no experience with t 6.5 prc. I see it as a good option if you do not reload and want a 6.5 that performs better than a 6.5 creed. The factory ammo for it is cheaper than other comparable cartridges, such as a 6.5x284.
