6.5 prc vs 264 wm

Haha, ok so if we're not speculating - what's the actual numbers?

*Still comes down to personal preference - long or short action, bdl or detachable mag, etc etc

Good luck with your decision!

Has the factory ammo been consistent from box to box (base to ogive, OAL, FPS, etc)? Also, with the .130 FB, are you almost touching the lands?

First answer is yes. Many different boxes in many different rifles. The .130 FB has factory ammo just touching the lands. I have no personally experience with the .188 freebore but have seen it give the same results. As stated my .188 barrel is on the way.

Hello all, getting ready to build my first custom and I'm confused of witch one to go with. They look similar in ballistics. Any reason to choose one or the other? Components will be mc gamescout with a left hand rem 700 (long or short) with a 26" bartlein #3 barrel. Thanks in advanced. First time posting.

I can not comment on the merits or short comings of the 6.5 PRC as I have not shot one.

I can however echo several comments on the 264 Win. I have owned several and still own a couple. Modern powders and a 1 in 8 twist barrel make this cartridge shine. My preference is 140 - 143 grain bullets. In capable hands with a good rifle, this cartridge will surprise you on the performance front. Most of my kills with this cartridge are 1 shot, DRT at distances between 100 and 400 yards. I do have some other 6.5's but usually come back to one of my 264 Win's.

I have just gotten my .264 back and shot it a couple times with ELDs.
It is a Savage with a Shilen 26" 1-7 twist, stainless barrel.
I've some Sierra 150s and Vihtavouri 24N41, Norma 217, H870 and H1000 to try out.
The belt doesn't harm anything as you should headspace on the shoulder, anyway.
If you object to the belt, the PRC is your choice.
The throat was extended .160".
Have fun,
Gene

I run Norma 217 in a couple of my rigs. I haven't tried VV24N41. How does it compare???

Straight jacket posted this with factory ammo they chamber with .130 freebore

I had a 6.5 creed and built a custom 264 win mag. The wm is pushing 140gr Berger elites at 3,217fps and shooting in the .2/.3's all day long.

With the same bullet in a prc, I'd guess you'd be lucky to get 3,000fps in the same 26" barrel.

Just depends on what your setup is going to be (detachable mag or bdl), game you'll shoot with it, are you going to reload?

If you reload, I'd look at the 6.5 SAUM as well - 3,100fps easy with same 140 gr bullets and just as accurate as either caliber.

*the good thing is, if it's custom, do whatever you want! Whether it makes sense to anyone else on the caliber choice doesn't matter!

Have fun with it and let us know what you decide!

Not for nothing but my PRC with a 24" barrel is getting 3056 fps with 143 ELD-X's and that's with Copper Creek ammo.

You could always go 6.5 saum with a 26" barrel. Has a it more capacity than prc, will net you 75fps or so. Adg makes good brass now. Raug will have factory ammo this year in norma brass. I'm building one on a Tikka long action to max out usable case capacity on a 26" 1:7.5 barrel. Will run very close to win mag speed with 10gr less powder and good case fill. I do enjoy my current 6.5 saum, but the new one will be even better!

morning, what is the hip about all these high breed
6.5's trying to compete with the 264win. mag.
all of ur high breds will not compete with this
cartridge. this is the super 6.5. the 264win.
got a very bad rap, because at the time of
production the bullet used, powder and barrel
length would not produce the advertised prints.
the 264win. had to compete with the 7mmRem. mag.
now days a well built 264win. is a predator.
this caliber and cartridge can stand with the
performance of many of the mag. and non-
mag. calibers. this is the super 6.5. no equals in this
cartridge. the 264win. will live a long time as the
super 6.5. oh I forgot. the 6.5 has been
around nice WWI. the 6.5x55swede is one
hell of a cartridge. talk about performance.
the 6.5x55AI and the 260rem.AI r no
puffs. I had a swede and now
own a custom 6.5 rem. mag. I would like
to build a 6.5x7mmwbee. another high
bred. the manufactures talk all this hype
about the 6.5 high breds. they r the ones
making the money off a WWI sede caliber.justme gbot tum
