6.5 prc elk bullet poll!

What elk bullet?

Here's my question for you hammer fans, In the 6.5 weather it is a creed or a PRC why don't you ever hear of anyone using a 140gr. Hammer. I would think it would be a awesome bullet choice in the PRC!
Barrel twist rate. You have to have the right twists for the bullet. The twist rate for a 137 grain hammer is 1 in 6.5. Most 6.5's don't come with barrels with that twist rate. It seems 1 in 8 is pretty standard from most of the factory rifles I have seen. If you have a custom made you could certainly get a barrel with a 1 in 6.5 twist. Just my two cents.

Thanks for comments everyone. Wish I had a 300 but all I have to work with is the 6.5 prc for now. I'm going to stick with the hammers and I'll report back after the hunt. Cheers
I think that is a good choice and look forward to hearing what happen s in the future. The more info we can share with each other here the better off we all are.

Would you mind me asking you to elaborate. I am hunting with Hammers this year for elk and would love to know what happened.
I don't think you need too worry , there is a lot of proof they work pretty well . I wish when someone makes a statement like that they would give more detail so it could be open for discussion , that's how we learn , it's called constructive criticism. Everyone has their preferences for one reason or the other right or wrong.

The 131 gr Hammers were designed for 6.5PRC with 1 in 7.5.

"ELD m's are not a hunting bullet that is unethical and totally wrong have a nice day"

I don't hunt with ELD-Ms, so I don't have dog in the fight. That said, what I've experienced, learned by quietly reading and by hearing firsthand hunting accounts has lead me to these conclusions:

1. Most hunters who hate ELD-Ms inevitably have never seen an ELD-M in action and are basing their opinion totally on internet folklore.

2. Most hunters who hate ELD-Ms seem to actually believe there is such a thing as a perfect bullet, that never fails.

3. Most hunters who hate ELD-Ms have no understanding of what kind of role serendipity plays in mankind's success.

Serendipity:

The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.

Sometimes things do what they are not supposed to do.

Let's take a vote round 2! Elk hunting with the 6.5 prc out to 500 yards max
Options are 124 hammer hunter at 3400fps or the 156 Berger at 2900fps groups are the pretty much the same. Or 143 eldx factory loads at 3000fps
Thanks!
Here is evidence of the results of a 168 grain Barnes ttsx traveling at 3326 ft/second from a 300 Win Mag. Full pass through 1-shot kill with the off leg broken as well… I won't be changing anytime soon!

It might be helpful in making your mind up , if you read the Disapointed in the 156 gr Berger Thread . I'm not in no way saying anything bad about Berger bullets but it may help clear your mind . Good luck on your choice and wishing you a successful hunt regardless of bullet choice.

And what happens ,when the new wears off and the old shines through and they do exactly what they are designed too do?

What's new? ELD-M and its predecessors (like A-Max) have existed for decades. Thousands and thousands of animals have been ethically killed with them.

Which 'old' bullet does 'exactly what they are designed too do'? All the time... without failure... ever?

There is no such thing as a perfect bullet, or perfect decision. We can only do the best we can do.
Sometimes the best we can do is shoot a match bullet.
Cheers

Try the Nolser ABLR in 150gr I get 2,900 fps with Tikka T3X and 24" OEM barrel...
I also believe once you're 300 + metres then the heavier projectile is superior
