30 NOSLER OR 300 PRC

My father worked in Aerospace for 30 yrs. Every single missile system and nasa spacecraft has parts from his company to this day You think you know something that isn't true. Politicians come in during campaign season and ask for donations/support. If they don't get it they will do what they can to kill a project. That's what happens. Companies that work for DOD are not bribing anyone. Most don't even take DOD personal to lunch while on site.
Name a more stable powder for the 300 win mag than H1000. It has to do with case design and application. If it mattered the armorers would be doing the loading. That hasn't happened in years and it isn't part of the mos anymore
Maybe not in briefcases full of $100's like in the movies, but sometimes outside agendas and personal investment interests get pushed harder if it benefits both parties. It's called the war machine. It's what fuels it. People who have personal monetary investments into companies that get recommended and pushed hard to the government to use for a certain product(s), which after signing contracts and government payments to the company boosts profit margins, which then makes their stock dividends go exponentially higher, making the investors wealthier.

For me, IMR 7977 is proving to be a more stable powder than anything else I've used in a magnum cartridge with single-digit SD's and 10-14 FPS ES on humid nasty 95º summer days with the sun beating down.

Being a double based powder it will create more heat faster. Not exactly the best circumstance for a military application where long strings of fire will happen with lives on the line.

Last time I was shooting with the current outside conditions, it was ****-near recreating that scenario, because it was so hot, the barrel wouldn't cool down, which is when I got those low ES and SD numbers... Not sure if they've tested 7977, but they might want to look into testing it. Works great for me.

According to who? Were all the rifles tested spec'd the exact same for an unbiased test? And why did they claim the .300 PRC the winner? What did it do that none of the others did? I'm surprised Barrett didn't rename it the .300 Barrett... How much money exchanged hands to get Hornady and Barrett to cooperate on this private sector sales-driving project? This is fixing to be friggin hilarious! Now every armchair sniper will be selling their precious .300 WinMags to buy a .300 PRC... HAHAHAHA!!!

I agree, I'm actually building a 300wm after looking at the pro's and con's of nearly every 30 cal magnum out there.

In the end, it's hard to argue with a tried and true work horse.

Not really... The CM was sort of an original, but the PRC line is just stealing already established wildcats, giving them a different name, and then get them SAAMI spec'd. That's the whole magic that goes on behind the curtain. They're the wizards that are just laying down voodoo on the masses that hang on everything they do.

I buy Hornady brass, and shoot Hornady ammo in some of my handguns and AR's. I'm not hating on Hornady, I'm just dispelling the magic behind what they're doing. Some folks just don't want to admit it, and others get really pizzed off when you burst their bubble.

Frank Green of Bartlein barrels seems to think their magic is ok as he's running the cartridge in his F Class open rifle, based on his results and findings I'm going to give the the new cartridge a whirl, some actual info on the cartridge from Accurate Shooter forum.

I did notice Rich has already improved it to have a 40 deg shoulder, wonder why he didn't improve the 300 win mag ;)

Well, Hornady says it's the best thing since sliced bread, too... Apparently the DOD now thinks so, as well. Is that going to change my opinion? Not in the least.

You've stated this before as if it makes sense, as if i'm going to somehow give you a different answer, but I thought we had already established that it would be absolutely stupid to try to improve a .300 WinMag, because it's already been done 100 times. And if you're a wildcatter, and you want to leave an individual mark, you don't try to do it with something that's been beat like a rented mule... Which to break it down, means that you want to be the first to wildcat a fresh SAAMI cartridge.

Yes that very well could be why Rich did it but the reality is he was using the wildcat version of this case for a while now and for good reason, hard not to see the fact it's an excellent case design.

There are varying checks and balances in place when it comes to DOD competitive sourcing (inherently governmental and/or commercial activities), esp. those under OMB A-76 Circular. This is based on real world experience, NOT internet experience.

Mud like old shcrappy designs so he can waste as much time as possible making them right. You'd think he'd look at the print and see how it has less case taper 30 degree shoulder angle and longer neck. Then they made it so the throat dimesion was correct also. Nothing for him to see here. He won't look at your link because someone with actual knowledge and factual data with actual pressure test equipment with god knows how many test rounds fired from all of those.
I'm busting his baggettes some but just to open his mind a bit. Imagine if he was involved in evaluations for procurement? We'd still have the 30/40 Krag in the arsenal

Mud my grandfather was the contractor for the original navy diver's knife. This knife had the bronze hilt and the twist lock sheath. He had that contract from it's inception (he was part of the design team)til 1973. During Ted the red nosed submarine driving Kennedy's quest to run for president in the 72 election cycle. He went to every single defense contractor looking for support. My Grandfather was a democrat as was most of this god forsaken state. He told him that he did not contribute to political campaigns due to being a defense contractor. It was Ted K's specific actions that removed my grandfather's contract from the defense spending. My other grandfather was working at another shop that built mostly large defense parts. Ship props and what not. Same thing happened with the same result. My father's company refused and a Lockheed Martin contract was cancelled in favor of Grumman which was far less involvement. He continued to remove as many defense contractors in his own state and god only knows how many he approached in other states. He is the only one I have personal knowledge of but I can guarantee others do the exact same thing. All you have to do is look at who gets contracts and who doesn't get investigated in the other fields like banking.
That is how it works. The dod personal especially the army navy and airforce personal could give 2 craps for cash they want the shiny new toy
