30 NOSLER OR 300 PRC

Sooooo... Can we get back to the subject of 300 PRC? Gotta stop feeding the Troll or he will never go away.

Im still thinking about building one to go with my 338-375 Ruger cuz I have a magnum action with no barrel just waiting for me to decide on a cartridge. Debating with myself between the 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC.

I'm doing a 30 Nosler on my next build with a reamer that I spec'd, so I guess that makes me a 30 Nosler fan boy.

This morning, on the way to work, I contemplated doing a 300 PRC on another gun of mine.

I think both rounds are really neat, and both, depending on one's view and intended purpose, have some things I'd change on the reamer.

My opinion of the the latest offerings from Hornady is that they are at least designing cartridges with more modern features, and taking into consideration certain design criteria for existing guns, etc. (sure wish Remington had done that with the 300 RUM..., I wouldn't need a Wyatt's box then...).

If the whole world and tinkerers didn't have open minds, and try to improve on things, we'd all be stuck in the stone age.

Agreed! I say pick one and go for it ... you know it won't be you last build.:D

Absolutely nothing wrong with being a 30 Nosler fan boy.

You hit it, having an open mind enhances creativity and innovation.

Yeah... All of them. It's just that the people who buy into the hype think it's the most awesome thing ever, and that nothing else has ever been as good, or will ever be better, or that nothing else matches the performance, when it's quite clear they only understand their hype-taught marketing talking points that they read online, saw on youtube, or read in a pimp-piece gun magazine article. Until Hornady craps out something else the next year. Then THAT cartridge is the best, blah blah blah. Then repeat every time they pop a new one.

It's not the cartridges that I have such a problem with, it's the die-hard followers, the newbies, and the ignorant who truly don't know any better, but tout it as the best thing ever. I can't really fault Hornady, they're just capitalizing on the human stupidity of following trends. I'm not wired to be a trendy person or a follower, so I don't see it the same way yall do. I see it as lemmings following each other over the cliff. But that's just me.

I don't think anyone is claiming that its the best thing since sliced bread but it certainly has some simple benefits in design compared to say the 300 Win Mag, Frank Green of Bartlein Barrels did extensive (pressure) testing with the cartridge and stated that where the 300 WM will start to show pressure the 300 PRC doesn't again in the design of the cartridge, between him and Dave Tooley they certainly have used it extensively with good results and Im sure they aren't NEWBIES, IGONORANT, STUPID or a Lemming as you seem to call anyone owning or taking a Shine to a 6.5CM,6.5PRC or now the 300PRC, I'm sure there countless other experienced folks that fall into your categories, by all accounts there are a lot amazingly brilliant and very experienced people on this site as well as others.

Just curious do you have any experience with the 6.5PRC or the 300 PRC ?

I find it strange how you continuously disrupt and ruin these threads with your abusive posts toward the bulk of the members on this site as Im sure a good portion of the members own one of the 3 of those cartridges or are interested in one of them and this thread is a perfect example of that.

Constructive Criticism from an experienced voice is always appreciated but your constant belittling posts are what drives good people away from excellent sites like LRH.

Getting back to the topic at hand I have shot the new Kimber Montana 300 PRC with a 26" Hells Canyon 1-9.5 twist barrel, both factory rounds were right at advertised velocity and grouped at 3/4"

I started at 76grs, 76.5gr, 77grs of R26
230gr ScenarL with 77gr R26 produced 2900 FPS and 1/2" groups and no obvious pressure signs.

Reality is I don't think you can go wrong with either cartridge as they both are excellent in my mind.

Is the RL26 and Scenar the only load work you have done?

Not much information on actual load work. Mine hates factory ammo(I was hoping it would replicate my 6.5). It also hates the 215 Berger which is disappointing as it is my favorite bullet. I am now working with the 208, 212, 225 ELDs and H1000. I can already tell it will not best my 30 Noslers.

I find it strange just how often you choose to interject into a personal level when the posts are not directed at you in the very least. Nobody yanked your chain.

"Abusive posts"...??? Please tell me you're not serious? If you are, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard. It's the internet, not real life. That's almost as pathetic as those snowflakes having to run to a "safe space" after seeing the word "TRUMP 2016" written in chalk on the sidewalk. It's only "abusive" if you let it hurt your feelings... We're all adults here. We should be able to deal with differing opinions in a logical civilized manner without taking them to heart or feeling cognitively impaired or personally attacked (which is what all of yall keep doing to me). If my posts hurt your feelings so bad, then by all means, click on my username, and click the "ignore" option. No harm, no foul...And we all move on.

I don't care if someone wants to buy one, or owns one. Go for it! Go buy 10 of them for all I care. It makes absolutely no difference to me. Because no matter how many get bought and sold, that doesn't change what they are, and what they aren't. And that's all I'm pointing out in my posts.

The fact is most of your posts add no value to the thread. You obviously can not see that.

Do you have either cartridge? If so share that experience and move on. Better yet do you have experience with both? Probably not. Too many people on this forum chime in with little to no real world experience. Every single one of us is capable of interjecting with an opinion but that does nothing for the OP. The sad thing is new guys see a guy like you with high post count and assume you know what you are talking about and I believe in some if not most cases you do but all too often you just disrupt the thread and then when it is pointed out you double down. You can come back with some witty response to how you disagree but what would be best is if you just bow out or add some real world experience with the two cartridges being discussed.

It is amazing to me how many of these threads have a ridiculous about of pages with only 1 or 2 of actual meaningful information.
