30 NOSLER OR 300 PRC

They are very similar cases. The Nosler case is slightly shorter and holds about 5 gr H2O more capacity and the biggy for me is ADG is making quality brass for it which makes it my choice and am planning on ordering a Cooper Jackson Hunter Long Range in the 30 Nosler

A 28nos is 2.590 case size...a 30 nos is 2.556...I'm not quite sure why you seem so condescending about the answer. I'm well aware of 28-30 as opposed to a 30. However I certainly don't follow your logic on not being able to reach an accuracy mode b/c of low pressure...or some odd remark. The new 230 SMK's have nearly identical surface bearing as the 215's, so as for fact or fiction I'm interested in fact from experience with that particular bullet.

Dont read into my comments. I just make quick to the point posts, no intentions of condescending remarks. I mean the 30-28 case is not big enough vs the 30 case to get you enough speed to make the next accuracy node. So you will end up shooting both at the same speed, but its a hot load so the lower pressure of the 30-28 is nice for brass life

I see everyone is trying slower powders in the 300 PRC...Has anyone tried some faster powders in the H4350 burn rate area?

I dont have experience with the 300 PRC, but I run 76.5gr of RL16 in my 338-375 Ruger ("338 PRC") to push 250gr Berger HVLDs at 2980 fps in a 26" barrel. Very impressive velocity in my opinion considering the moderate powder charge and barrel length. Just wondering if anyone has tried a powder like RL16 in the 300 PRC and what the velocities were? Thanks.

Edited: I had my powder charge wrong by a few grains.

Just have to consider OAL for magazine feeding when using the new 230gr SMKs. I agree that the bearing surfaces of the Berger 215, Berger 230, and Sierra 230 are very similar, but the Sierra bullet is a lot longer bullet than the Bergers. With the Sierra 230 seated to the lands in my 300 Norma Mag Improved with .235" freebore, I'm hitting just under 3.7" OAL.

For those interested the ADG 30 Nosler brass averages about 2grains more h20 capacity than Nosler brass which puts it very close to the 30-28 capacity with Nosler brass.

ADG also makes 28 Nosler brass...

Hoping they will pick up the 300 Norma soon since Lapua doesnt want to fulfill any orders to US suppliers.

Completely aware. I do not have ADG 28 Nosler to give you the volume when necked up. I do have 28 Nosler Nosler brass and therefore my statement of fact. If you have ADG 28 Nosler brass necked up to 30 feel free to divulge that information.

I dont, but it would be interesting to see if the 28 also had more capacity than Nosler brass. Perhaps that would be enough to hit a higher accuracy node?

I had a 300 win mag for many years, but the only big 30's I own at the moment are 300 Norma Mag Improved (one in the process of being built). Have another action that I'm trying to decide on what to build with it. Now I'm thinking possibly a 30 Nosler. 300 PRC is still in the mix.

I would doubt it would hit the next node even if it had an extra 2 grains. 3100 with a 215 is plenty of velocity. I can tell you right now my 300 PRC can not get there with H1000.
