I would expect velocities to be similar, but like Fred said, I will actually fit in the mag box with long heavy bullets.

As soon as I get the cash, I will be sending off to Kiff for my custom carbide reamer set. I would normally get them from Fred, but I kind of put a little Mud in my design, and hot rodded it. :D
The 7mm MudRod. :D

It should be somewhere between the 7 STW and the 7 RUM. After all it is a shortened 7 RUM case.
The usual suspects like RL-33, Retumbo, US 869, RL-25 etc. Maybe the new RL-26 too.

24" barrel

Load data
Bullet: Sierra Match King 168
COAL: 3.445
Powder: H-1000
79 grains, 91% case capacity, 2919fps, 46k PSI
80 grains, 92% case capacity, 2944fps, 47k PSI
81 grains, 93% case capacity, 2965fps, 48k PSI
82 grains, 94% case capacity, 3030fps, 51k PSI
83 grains, 95% case capacity, 3054fps, 53k PSI
84 grains, 97% case capacity, 3107fps, 55k PSI
85 grains, 98% case capacity, 3140fps, 55k PSI

I don't think this is "max" with H-1000 in this rifle. IMR 7828 or even Reloader-17 might be better with 168's or lighter bullets.

I now have my explaination of why velocities are 100fps slower than predicted, because pressures are lower than predicted. When I look at the QL chart for 55k PSI it shows 3160fps, I got 3140 at 55k PSI, perfect. Low pressure=lower speed.

This demonstrates why you have to test loads in your barrel even if the recipe comes from the "books". Also why more than one "book" (data source) is very helpful.

24" barrel

Load data
Bullet: Sierra SPBT #1930
COAL: 3.455
Powder: H-1000
78 grains, 90% case capacity, 2908fps, 48k PSI
79 grains, 91% case capacity, 2907fps, 51k PSI
80 grains, 92% case capacity, 2970fps, 52k PSI
81 grains, 94% case capacity, 2990fps, 53k PSI
82 grains, 95% case capacity, 3041fps, 56k PSI, not enough variance to worry about
83 grains, 96% case capacity, 3059fps, 55k PSI
84 grains, 97% case capacity, 3088fps, missed reading

I think this can be taken higher but it shows predictable progression of charge vs velocity vs pressure. This series, unlike other of the 284, was very close to predicted velocity and pressure. Go figure.

I wish they made a PT-III system that would Bluetooth, or use your iPhone's charging cable (USB) with an iPad/iPhone... That way you didn't have to bulk your laptop around to the range with you...

Thank you for posting the load data/velocities. I think I need one of these!

One small question: are the two post with data using the same bullet? The first one states 168gr sierra match kings, and the second states sierra spbt #1930...I think the 1930s are the 168 match kings, which contradicts the spire point boat tail description.

Thank you again for working on this project and posting your results - very informative.

The Pressure Trace II is a Bluetooth device.

We need an iPhone/Android app that will collect the data. The data can be moved to the PC for more analysis.

I don't think we will get it but .....

Crappy editing on my part. Too late to fix it.

first bullet is 168 hpbt SMK
second bullet is 175 spbt GMK

Just curious, if the data collected is from a 24 inch barrel, what could it be with a 28 inch barrel? Could it be mabey 100-150 fps faster mabey? Thanks again Fred for your data. Good stuff here!
