I shot a unbraked 340 wby for about 15 years. The rifle, dressed to hunt all in loaded bipod 9-12oz,scoped only 8-12oz.Mild to me Ive had it fairly light grip and scope just bump me.But I can spot my own shots most times.

You're a better man than I. I can't spot shots with my braked 6.5 creedmoor half the time :)

Havent tried without brake.I did shoot a 6by after I could not get set up for a 840 yrd shot.Hiked up timber and bumped into at 50 yrds, took time to put my work type plugs on hoop in,bull looking at me.Im interested to try electronic buds,my ears not so good been in construction my whole life, harder hearing bulls bugle now.Safe those ears

Your light .338 NM is actually what made me decide to make mine you see on the first page ha ha. It's very close in weight to yours, bare rifle is 7 lbs 5.5 oz, then the 1 piece DNZ scope base and optic. I had thought about it and was unsure due to recoil, but I saw you say that it is something like an unbraked 30-06, or something like that. My first hunting rifle when I was 11 was a 7.5 lb all up 30-06 shooting 190 BTSP's at 2750 fps, and I had no issue from even a young kid, so I decided it would be fine. That 5 port MBM Beast brake shoult tame it, but ya, I'm going to get electronic hearing pro for when I push timber anymore. I gaurantee that thing will be VERY loud with that brake ha ha.

Some of you fellas tickle me!!! :) On my last trip to Montrose, Colorado; the CZ550 was still a .416 Rigby launching 325 gr. Barnes to 2850 fps propelled by 110 grs. of Reloader 22. I fired it PRONE, off of a downed base of a tree!!!:D:D:D
........and it was a Factory CZ550 Safari with NO BRAKE!!!! ;)

The thing with the .416 Rigby is that it's more like a good SHOVE, than a punching pain. I've fired .300 Wins that HURT WORSE. ;) I love the .416 Rigby enough that I had to get a Ruger RSM to replace the CZ. :D
That is good to know. I was thinking of adding one to the collection, but heard the recoil was pretty stout. I am not recoil shy.....just bad shoulder for now.
