Zeiss Do’s & Don’ts Memo

But it says do not promote trophies or dead animals. They make a product used to kill animals. Last time I checked hunting killed animals. Also, camo? Hunters wear camo.

Again, hopefully this is some deep fake thing, to try and divide the hunting community. And hopefully it isn't actually real.
The camo goes back to military camo which has to do with tactical. They have plenty of camo in the advertisements, just not any military camo. Again, why promote a line of business that you are not involved in? The thing with trophies is political correctness. Maybe they are afraid that it may hurt their overall image seeing as hunting is probably a very small part of the company.

Why promote something that you don't sell? They have been making scopes to hunt probably longer than any US company in existence. It makes no sense to promote anything other than hunting.

They make scopes for night hunting which here is predominantly done with ARs for hogs and predators.

Military camo is relative and a lot of firearms accessories are only sold in military camo patterns. Same with guns, Browning has offered the X-Bolt in various military style camo patterns over the years and that is in no way, shape or form a military rifle.

What's the difference between kuiu and multicam? Its camo. I wear multicam hunting. They sell PRS scopes. That's pretty tactical to me...look at that scary rail over the barrel. What's that used for? NV? Why would anyone need that? What they don't show is that scary 10 round mag that extends past the stock which is conveniently hidden behind the bag rest.

I guess my hold up is, if you sell a product for firearms but you don't want to be associated with the multitude of intersectionality involved with firearm products, then why make anything for that market?

You and I aren't going to agree on this. Once again...I hope this is just some made up internet BS.

If you look at the way it was worded, military colors/camo, it obviously has to do with tactical. Just because you make donuts doesn't mean you have to put cakes in your advertisements just because it all has to do with baking and you don't want to upset those people who eat cakes.

Also, how many scope manufacturers display dead animals on social media? Should we not buy their product if they don't display dead animals on their website? I own at least a half a dozen different manufacturers of scopes. Should I go out to all their websites and make sure they have dead animal pictures and tactical pictures on them and if they don't, get rid of the scopes? The whole reason the memo, true or not, was posted was to create division and try to get people on the cancel culture bandwagon. I am sick of this pettiness and I choose not to be offended and play along.

I am not offended. I just find it weird that you make a product that kills animals, market it to people who wear camo to kill said animals, who also use your product on rifles that can have certain features. But then you don't want your product in pictures associated with all those things your product is designed to do and be used for. I read that memo as something to their sponsors, vendors, and employees. Like hey don't post your hunting trip on facebook as an employee of zeiss using a zeiss product. If its to their marketing team on official newsletters or their website, then whatever. It's still disingenuous. It doesn't matter what I think. I am just one person. I am sure they will be fine with or without me.

I am sure those policies are fine for their European market, but I would hope they were a little more in tune with the US market.

They posted it to point out the hypocrisy, Zeiss makes scopes for hunting but doesn't want their pro staff to show pictures of the results. Same with long range, they make a long range scope that falls under the tactical banner but don't want to see people using them on tactical camo coated rifles with large magazines, extended handguards, and adjustable cheek pieces.

You can't have it both ways, if you don't want to be associated with that clientele then don't make products for them. Add to that them not wanting to show people teaching young people how to shoot and the memo reflects rather poorly on them.

Thanks for saying it more eloquently than I did.

For one, you are assuming that they are telling their staff not to post their own pictures to their official company social media outlets to promote zeiss optics when it could be simply be to tell them not to use some stock photo to advertise their products. I went to the zeiss hunting facebook page and they advertise their optics. I don't see anywhere that staff are posting their personal experiences so I don't think that is what they are referring to. As for their long range optics, they don't advertise it as tactical. They advertise it for long range competition as well as long range hunting.

I think the memo is probably true but could have easily been sent out 10 years ago.

I have only ever owned one Zeiss optic and it broke under recoil. I guess my rifle was to tactical for it.

Funny thing about this Zeiss statement is about 15 years ago there was a mini expo at Campbell Barracks, IVO Heidelberg Germany. I believe Zeiss was there and so was Sako. The Zeiss scopes were shown mounted on the current (for that time) TRG-42. The TRG-42 is not exactly a Fudd gun.

Didn't Zeiss have some defense contracts during the GWOT years?

Oh well, I will stick with NightForce, Vortex, and Arken. None of those have died under recoil.

I get a company trying to have some control on reps and employees posting pictures, etc., with their products. Individuals tastes and what they feel is appropriate can have a very wide amount of variability. What I don't understand is a company possibly alienating consumers in their target market with overbearing political correctness. There are too many competitors making fine optics to not be genuine in your marketing.
