To be honest, one of the main reasons I like river fishing is the amount and variety of critters we encounter. We encountered a nesting pair of bald eagles, a bob cat crossing the river on a low hanging tree, river otters, and numerous other critters on a short day paddling and fishing. Snakes are there, but generally keep to themselves. Grizzly bears and mountain lions would worry me a lot more in other parts of the country.Australia or the Deep South, no place I ever want to hang out, hats off to you guys that deal with those types of critters, not for me
