If I had to do it over again with just ONE cartridge, Id choose the 300 H&H.
I already have one in #1, amongst many 700 action rifles...
For some reason, the classic feel of this round gets me every time I crack open my ammo boxes for it.. Norma brass and a stiff charge of RL19 with a 168 CT.
for a stock Ruger # 1 Medium Sporter chambered in that round--- she does under 3/4 moa-- rain or shine. I can't complain about that.

my next Rifle looks like another barrel on my .308 along with a new stock.
unless I pull the barrel on my 7MAG and make a target/tactical rifle in the A5 theme.
For hunting deer and elk out to 500 yards, I dont see what you get out of the 6.5x284 that you cant get out of a .270 win. 24 inch barrel both guns, 140gr vld, I know bc is a bit better in the 6.5, but at 500 yards, come on.....
300 win mag will be my next rifle. I already have one but would like to get another. I have a good load for my model 70 300 win mag of 60 grains of varget over 150 grain Hornady SSTgun).
