Wyoming

There are many new hunter access areas that hold lots of animals. The new maps from wyoming game and fish show them and where and how to check in. I believe these areas are much better than the blm spots as they are mostly private land.

Yeah, definitely not in it for the meat, that being said I heard that the meat is very good.
Not really looking for a record trophy either just a decent representative.
I just really like to hunt, and have never gone hunting in Wyoming or for Antelope.

I've got a bunch of Elk points as well and hopefully be able to find a decent spot for elk while antelope hunting.

Antelope and elk don't usually inhabit the same spot. However I just saw some elk, antelope and mule deer in the same meadow two weeks ago. They were mixed in together, like they were planning on where to hide from us during season.

Is it worth driving to wyoming from idaho to scout areas or just put in for a tag and risk it???
I am thinking unit 17 at the moment, I've got 5 preference points and it appears I can draw a tag for 17.

I've hunted Wyoming for several years. Driving out from WV. I hunt the eastern side of the state on public and walk in. The population is definitely down. I draw every couple years. I should draw this year. If you have OnX and a current Wyoming gazetteer. You should be fine.

Each counties website has a link to a map that shows which roads are county roads. I was looking at C or R for deer. Dont know if it's worth the special for R.

Yeah, i already found that out.
With my budget, I'm definitely NOT going with a guide!!
$4,000 for a guided hunt for cow elk, 4 days is only achievable if I win the lottery.

Mostly the hunt is to put meat in the freezer. Along with the experience of course.
But at $4,000, I'm cheaper off buying a side of beef.
Yes you are paying for the experience . Buying a side of beef is more cost effective and that is a bummer

I've hunted antelope in a few units in WY. We had good luck our first time out in one unit, showed up the day before and scouted a few spots, found a way to get away from the road hunters. Tagged out 4 guys in 2 days. 2 shot away from road hunting, 2 spotted from road.

A few years later we tried a different unit. Did deer earlier and showed up a couple days into the season. Every spot of public ground had been a killing field opening day, lots of evidence of kills and all remaining animals had been run off onto private land. Perhaps we'd been OK to run a similar strategy of showing up a day or two early and committing to being on a spot with animals opening morning.

At a minimum I'd show up a day or two early to come up with a plan for opening morning.
