My least favorite cartridge? 7.62x39 Russian. A moderately efficient short range military round used in boring military guns.
Seems to be favored by the blaster and splatter types who like to destroy targets at 15 yards on the local ranges. SKS and AK47 variants are kept around for "home defense" and chattering bullets somewhere down range. You could hunt pigs or deer in close with it, or better yet shoot rats at the dump with it. (can we still do that?) Anyway I don't like the 7.62x39 and the people that shoot the guns made for it. Or maybe I got that backwards?
The 7.62x54 round would probably be better for many Long Range Hunting applications. It has been proven as a sniper round.
However, I do somewhat regret not buying a particular bolt action rifle in 7.62x39 that I was saw for sale. The scope on that rifle was worth more than the asking price on that one. Hey, everyone makes mistakes.
