Whats the cartridge you LOVE to HATE?

Love it. Reminds me of Valentine's Day commercials. I call Make Men feel guilty day. Showing guys buying their women big diamond rings. Lol! Here, here's a rose. Enjoy. I had a photo saved of a box of chocolates with a women's joy toy in it. It said if she doesn't like the chocolates she can _ herself. Even woman laughed at it. I'll probably be banned now 😳

A man has to have his priorities right!!

I had something similar to that happen to me actually. I was dating this very high maintenance, very very expensive, but very good looking girl. She had a very good job making six figures and I wasn't doing so bad as a young engineer.
We were about a year into the relationship when we decided to take a weekend trip to Vegas. We were walking through the shops in one of the Hotels when we came to a Tiffany's jewelry store. We went in and she started looking at various things but ended up at the diamond rings. She started looking at rings that were $15-$20K. My eyes bugged out of my head and then her and the gal behind the counter started talking about a man was supposed to spend 3 months of their salary on an engagement ring. I just walked on out the store and sat down. I realized at that moment that even when I got my PE license I wasn't going to be able to afford this one. The rest of the time we were there in Vegas she was dropping hints about getting an engagement ring and getting married.
So when we get back home I took the few thousand that I had been saving for a ring and went down and bought a nice Swarovski scope and rifle. When she came over and saw me mounting the scope on the rifle she started asking where I got the money for that kind of scope. Apparently She knew Swarovski was spendy because of the crystal LOL!!!
I told her that on that trip to Vegas she had saved me a whole lotta money.

We broke up not long after that.
Just gotta tell you about the "airline pilots" motto:

IF IT:

F FLOATS

F "fools around"

OR

R RENT IT...... DON'T BUY IT!!!

I hear they're equally common in rural Australia haha.
I don't have one but they were once common here.
I think some servicemen were able to bring theirs home.
There were a lot made available as military surplus. Many were rebarrelled into .303-25
Original Fullwood.303 rifles are now getting good money for 100+ year old rifles.
Some use them for an ANZAC Day shoot or other club shoots.
It's probably been used on all manner of game in Australia before affordable factory rifles became readily available.
30 years ago a functional Fullwood .303 would sell for as little as $100, now it might go from $1000 pending condition.

Well, I love the modern, fast twist, high bc cartridge trend kicked off by the 6.5 Creedmoor. Of all the people I hunt with, I'm the only one who has one and I only shoot it at the range since it's in a near 12 lb rifle with a muzzle brake. So, I haven't had to listen to any nonsense about how it's a magical slayer of any and all hoofed game from point blank to infinity.

OTOH, I'm not a fan of the very overbore cartridges especially in very heavy recoiling cartridges. My brother in law has a 257 wby, 300 wby (in an ultralight no less), and a 338 RUM. He shoots them very well, but it's not my thing. I'm a big believer in moderate velocity and reasonable caliber for the game you're after. Above about 3000-3100 fps, the juice isn't worth the squeeze IMO. I mean, if I need a 416 for hunting dangerous game I'll work my way up to it but cartridges like the 30-378 wby just baffle me.

On the other end of the scale, the 308 and 30-06 don't do anything for me. I've had one of each and sold them. They're very versatile and effective but just kind of vanilla for my taste. Very risky owning 1 rifle you can do everything with - you might end up with just one 😱😱😱😱😱

That's a scary thought.

Yep! A12 pound CM with a brake 🙀..…that's the kinds stuff horror movies are made from! 😂 memtb
Lol, yep it's set up for practicing shooting and spotting your impacts while shooting from prone or a tripod. Nice when you can shoot for hours and not develop a flinch.

I like a 7.5-9 lb rifle to walk around with. And I hate brakes, though I will use them on select rifles with double ear pro at the range. I do my best NOT to use them while hunting, even with electronic ear pro.

Going to have some fun here... just bought a Ruger M77 in 257 Roberts and debating rechambering to 257 Ackley Improved (has a 22" barrel). Here was a write up I found... it's interesting to read this when by the same standard then the creedmore and others shouldn't be used past relatively short distances.

This is from... https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/.257+Roberts.html

"... Once initial velocity is shed (whether we reach 2800fps or 2900fps), shot placement is the key factor. The hunter must always try to break foreleg bones of medium game in order to maximize bullet expansion, wound trauma and also, destroy the autonomic plexus hidden between the scapula ball joints. As a refresher, the heaviest bones of the foreleg intersect at the scapula ball joint slightly forwards of the apparent vertical line of the leg viewed broadside. In other words, the hunter needs to place shots approximately 1" forwards of the foreleg, rather than the natural tendency to use the line of the leg as the point of aim. If hunting larger bodied deer with a Roberts, this may require the use of a bullet like the Nosler Partition.

The forwards shot at close to moderate ranges is not difficult, though it can require a certain measure of discipline to implement if this shot placement is foreign to the shooter. The greater difficulty is maintaining the discipline to not aim behind the shoulder at extended ranges. On a calm day, such shot placement can be mastered quickly but in crosswinds, long range shot placement can become very difficult.

Slow killing rear lung or neck shots at ranges beyond 250 yards have turned many hunters away from mild velocity small bore loads. It cannot be re-iterated enough that regardless of meat damage, breaking major bones, destroying the autonomic plexus and forward lungs are keys to consistent performance in the Roberts. By the same token, the Roberts is not an ideal long range deer cartridge due to potential narrow wounding at lower velocities in the absence of ideal shot placement."

I shoot a 140gn Nosler Partition from a 6.5CM, it works exactly as described for the Bob. But then again I've never claimed it to be a death ray. Through the shoulders/ base of the neck and they never go anywhere.

I've been thinking of pulling that barrel off and putting a 257 Imp on it as a feeder rifle, the quarter-bore is coming back!

So... 22 inch barrel... 257 Roberts but regular length action. Fits the shoulder and points VERY nicely. Trigger is pretty heavy... so the question is 257 AI or keep it stock and run +P loads.

Keep it stock, adjust the trigger if possible or replace the trigger
If you need more HP get a 25-06 Also ‼️

Run +P and keep it stock.

I agree with if you need more then step up to the 25-06.

I have a 25-06. H&R single shot. I would like to do a 25-06 AI. Not sure why... but do we really need reasons why????

Funny thing is... you think that the wife would know what a packaged gun box would be by now. She assumed it was car parts. After I told her... I was like ****... opened my mouth when I shouldn't have.
