I'm thinking of doing 1-9 barrel for my next 7mm rifle, talk me out of it.

What are you crazy ? 1 in 9 in a 7mm RM ? You know who shoots 7mm RM in 1 in 9 ? The Taliban , thats who ! You know who else ? The Communist's !

Don't do it , for America !
Stock twist rate in a Rem 7mm Mag is between 1:9 to 1:10. So where are you coming from?

The more I shoot the Bergara I just bought in 7MM PRC with a 9TW I am confident you'll be fine to do it. Haven't shot anything heavier than 175 yet, it's only a 22" barrel because I shoot suppressed, but I'm getting a shade over 2900 fps, and I haven't hit the top yet.

Shot steel out to 500 today with 175 ELDX and banged my silhouette every time I pulled the trigger, hit 50 rounds today so it should only get better from here.

If you want a little faster than 1:9" to make sure you have the stability for most high BC bullets without varporizing the ELD-Ms, you can look into 1:8.4", 1:8.5", or 1:8.7" available by various makers.

I just sold my 28 Nosler with a 1-8 twist barrel. It wouldn't shoot the 180 ELD-M's at all. They disintegrated before reaching the target. I was told they were spinning to fast and coming apart, I couldn't refute that. I am building a 7-300prc and am leaning towards the 1-9 twist for it. I did all the calculations on the Berger stability calculator, and it said the 9 twist stabilizes even the 195 Berger's. I was hoping the slower twist wouldn't disintegrate thinner skinned bullets, like the ELD-M. I love the 180's and would like to stay in that area for hunting but would like to be able to shoot the heavier Berger. I can order either barrel from Bartlein. Where am I going wrong with my thinking?
I don't shoot a 7 but I put a Bartlein 1:8.5 5R on my LA 300 WSM. I chose the twist out of concern I may have only mono's to shoot in the future. My barrel shoots 200 and 210 cup and core Noslers very well.

I'm afraid I can't talk you out of it lol. Tried some H4831SC behind 162 ELDM's and groups shrank to half of what they were with H1000. Nearing 100 rounds, rifle may just be settling in, but 9 twist works just fine in 7mm's. I'm not going to shoot them, but even my 195 Bergers I shoot in my 28 Nosler only require a 9tw. For less than a thousand bucks I'm pretty happy with the Bergara.
