What is your best deer rifle

For close range in brush: One of my .280 Rems or 7mm08s.
For long distance: One of my Rem .280s or 7mm08s.
For Whitetail, antelope and varmints: .280 Rem or 7mm08.
For Mule deer, elk or moose: .280 Rem or 7mm08. :)
I lean toward the 7mms... but a lot of cartidges will do provided the right bullet and you hit them where you're supposed to.

Ha....Nice! Well, you know what they say...."Beware the man with only one rifle....he probably knows how to use it". (or in this case "mono-caliber").

My favorite deer rifle is my Marlin 1895g chambered in 45-70. This is my woods gun, can be loaded from mild to teeth rattling. I figure I'm covered for anything that walks the face of the earth. My open field rifle is my savage 110 30-06, never lets me down. This year I'll hope to blood my new 6.5 creed.

Just built one last year in .300 wm and building another in 6.5-284 now. Neither have drawn blood lol.

But, my very first rifle that has killed all my deer is a savage/ stevens 200 in .308 (.494 moa at 100 yard)

I have really started to like the 6.5 caliber for deer especially in a short action. I started hunting with a .243 but I like the heaver bullet selection of the 6.5 caliber.

lol that is funny!

How to drop a moose, elk, deer, bear, antelope, beaver or anything else in its tracks................. The trusty 30-06 :)

I like the 30-30 in the woods but if I'm hunting a field where I can get a longer shot the 270 rules! I tried the 243 and it's alright but it certainly doesn't have the power of a 270. This year I hope to try out my 6.5 Grendel and a 308 mod 70 that I'm planning to buy from a friend.

I am torn between three different rifles. The custom 700 in 7x57 imp is first ,it is heavy with a Hart bull barrel. The second is Ruger 77rs s/s action and barrel in243imp,this the carry rifle in the field . And the is 1903 Springfield in 30'06imp,it has open sights for brush and woods hunting..

typically a rem 700 in 308, but for the past 2 years I've used a cmmg semi auto in 7.62x39 with hornady sst rounds and have had great success. I hunt thicker wooded areas with shots within 80yds.
