I wouldn't say firepower is overrated in and of itself…but absolutely for most "prepared" people it's really about their only preparation and plan!!!! A stockpile of food and sufficient firepower to protect it and keep it yours is overlooked. And then I hear people talking about their ability to get food with their gun hunting, and growing food and bla bla bla it's ridiculous. If there's a true disaster, natural or man made, you might have to just HUNKER DOWN and stay put for a good while, you're not gonna be out hunting and gardening.Firepower is probably the most overrated items talked about in a SHTF scenario.
Yes, if you are very far from any fairly large population base, and have pretty thoroughly prepared yourself for long term survival, and do not require some form of constant medical assistance……you may, repeat "may" stand a chance of survival.
The most useful firearm would be a suppressed 22 rimfire, both in rifles and handguns. Tens of thousands of rounds stored at your home, or "bug-out location" (should you actually get there) can help feed you and offer some protection……quietly!
A long range, high power rifle can help…..but hoping to survive any form of extended encounter with multiple hostiles, would be pretty futile. If you actually survive that encounter…..the sound of gunfire will draw unwanted company. Even if you're suppressed……those you encounter will not likely be suppressed.
In a time like that, we will not be inundated by the ambient noise of everyday life as we know it no. The sound of hp unsuppressed rifle fire could be heard for miles in some regions.
Obviously, these are just the opinions of an old, semi-preppared, concerned (maybe a bit paranoid) man, hoping to help some of his family survive a SHTF scenario…..that he earnestly hopes never happens! memtb
I think there'd be folks surrounded by a great stockpile of weapons and ammunition AND STARVING TO DEATH
