What gun would you want if the SHTF?

Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Ruger PC carbines? It looks like it would be a nice companion for a 9mm or 40 pistol.
I've got an FX-9 from freedom ordnance it works good.
That being said a PCC is basically worse in every way than a 5.56 AR so I'd opt for the standard AR of your choice and a separate pistol. Also offers the advantage of basically the 2 most common cartridges so if you find ammo in a SHTF scenario you've got better odds of it working for you.

There are several, but this would be among them, Aero Precision M5, 20" SS w/war-comp. Leupold VH-6 HD 3-18X44 TMOA

No experience but I know a number of people that just love them. No issues. Ruger reliability.

They're pretty popular up here in Canada as they're non restricted and because they take pistol magazines they're not pinned to 5, 10 rounders are kosher. It's silly but also we'll definitely take advantage of that loophole haha.

They sell about as soon as we get them in at the store. High demand item.

PCC are an excellent weapon for work inside 100 yds. Cheaper ammo than rifle calibers as a trainer but they squeeze max velocity out of the pistol calibers with an 8"-10" barrel. The roller delayed actions are very easy to shoot accurately and fast because of the soft recoil pulse compared to standard blow back designs. Those come at a price but they are very reliable and run great. There are a few USA makers of HK MP5 clones (PTR, Zenith, Dakota) for less money than a German one. The king of the hill IMHO is the JP5 from JP Rifles. That's a roller lock on an AR platform so it has the advantages of a buffer, better trigger, better controls, lock back, and runs Glock mags.
Blowback PCC can be had for much less and some are pretty good, others can be finicky.
A 9" barreled 9mm with +P is basically a .357 with a 30 round mag.

Of course I have an AR. Every American should have at least one!
The PCC piqued my interest because in a SHTF scenario if you need to change location on foot you would only need to carry one type of ammo. And they look like something that would be fun to shoot!

Was having a BS session today tearing down our elk camp about what gun we would want if the s*#% hit the fan. We figured a gun that could shoot to 800 yards reliably would be the ticket and it would have to have a decent magazine system.

I was thinking I'd go buy a Remington 700 Police in 308 and have a detachable mag system installed with a few 10 rd mags then stick a 4.5-14x50 Mark 4 on it...mostly because that would about drain my savings right now. :D

How about everyone else?

I hope this hasn't been posted before.
All I own.

Definitely very fun to shoot.
IMO, In that case a pistol can basically do every thing a PCC can but neither can do what the rifle can so if you are only taking one firearm and one kind of ammo the vote goes to the AR over a pistol and PCC, that's unless your ammo reserves heavily favor the PCC/pistol combo.

All you Aluminum hat wears should worry more about where you are going to get the ammo for your choice!
I think you need to get some form of AR 223 and start buying large amounts of ammo and start stocking up!
I know When Covid hit and I was house bound I reloaded every round I had stuff for and have tried to keep replacing what I shoot
but I still don't have even 1000 rounds spread between 7 large rifles!
4 of which would work very well in a sniper situation ,but not in any large assault!

Hey there's a bunch of us that resemble that comment.
Where I was working at the time of Covid we were considered essential and the company decided to treat us like rented mules, working us 7 days a week for months. I had no time to reload then but I have been playing catch up but I don't think you can ever have enough ammo.

Firepower is probably the most overrated items talked about in a SHTF scenario.

Yes, if you are very far from any fairly large population base, and have pretty thoroughly prepared yourself for long term survival, and do not require some form of constant medical assistance……you may, repeat "may" stand a chance of survival.

The most useful firearm would be a suppressed 22 rimfire, both in rifles and handguns. Tens of thousands of rounds stored at your home, or "bug-out location" (should you actually get there) can help feed you and offer some protection……quietly! 😉

A long range, high power rifle can help…..but hoping to survive any form of extended encounter with multiple hostiles, would be pretty futile. If you actually survive that encounter…..the sound of gunfire will draw unwanted company. Even if you're suppressed……those you encounter will not likely be suppressed.

In a time like that, we will not be inundated by the ambient noise of everyday life as we know it no. The sound of hp unsuppressed rifle fire could be heard for miles in some regions.

Obviously, these are just the opinions of an old, semi-preppared, concerned (maybe a bit paranoid) man, hoping to help some of his family survive a SHTF scenario…..that he earnestly hopes never happens! memtb
