Why are these so fun?!

.223
.243
25-06
.280 Ackley
30-06

Everyone has their own silly, irrational little prejudices... mine is that I won't own a magnum... 😱

22lr
223
6.5 creed
270 Win
6.8 Western
375 HH

22 for small stuff. 223 for varmints. 6.5 creed, 270, 6.8W for majority of hunting. If I were into extreme range hunting maybe replace the 6.8W with 300 prc but since not 6.8W will handle all chores want more bullet weight than 6.5/270 with mild recoil. The 270 will go on any hunt even if just as back up if 6.5/6.8 are primary since you can buy 270 pretty much anywhere. 375 for DG and any place with caliber restrictions for larger species

Wow, back from the dead, and I am sure I posted in one of the previous 37 pages but hey, this is fun so why not! If I had to pick only 5 and they were for survival, these might just cover all of the bases.

.17 caliber pellet rifle (cheap and kills all small things quietly)
.22LR(because it is virtually the most versatile cartridge in history)
.308 win for just about whatever
.300 win mag just because
12 gauge

Hey guys,

I've been watching our threads for a while now and curiosity has got the best of me. With so many great choices out there for LRH which cartridges and calibers really set themselves apart from the rest, if any? Which ones make almost everyone's must have list? The reality is most people can't afford a half dozen rifles or more, so if you had the opportunity to hunt the world for everything from groundhogs to elephants and were limited to 5 cartridges or less what would they be? Just curious which ones consistently rise to the top and if any of the new Gucci cartridges make the cut or we wind up sticking with the tried and true. Feel free to state your reason or uses for each cartridge. I am not looking for a debate. There are no wrong answers. Everyone has there favorites. Just curious if there is any consistency? I think it could help some of the new guys narrow there choices when selecting their next cartridge....

I'll start! 308, 270 win, 300 WIn Mag, 338 RUM, 375 H&H. What are your thoughts???
I know I answered this, but now I've actually culled my hunting battery down to five rifles; shotguns, pistolas and rimfires are another category ;)

1. 260 Rem
2. 7mm STW
3. 300 H&H
4. 338-06 AS
5. 404 Jeffery

1, 2 & 4 see the most action. 3 for is historical significance. 5 because you never know when you'll need to stop an F150 pickup or what else will need to be shot.
