I grew up hunting with a m77 in 250-3000 and 100gr sp. We killed a bunch of deer with that rifle. Great round to start out on.I started my three sons with a custom Winchester 70 in 250-3000 with 100 gr bullets at 2600 fps, I watched them kill about ten deer with that rifle, all on shot kills, all within 100 yards. I soon realized that deer are not hard to kill if shot properly. I like lots of different cartridges but I know it doesn't take a super mag to kill a deer.
I really like the 280 but ammo is hard to find, Midway doesn't have any and they have one box of AI and it's $90+. You really need to handload to own a 280 these days which is a shame as it's a great cartridge..280 does the job for me.
.243, .308, or 7mm depending on where I am and what I'm chasing.
My old H&R .243 has proved to be very effective on whitetail and my 7mm is great when I want to go roam the mountains after bigger deer at longer ranges.
Nice catch. You are correct that I meant 7mm Rem Mag.I assume by 7 mm you mean the 7mm rem mag?
There's a ton of 7mms most of which are better long range deer rounds than the .243 or .308 win haha
For the last few years that's all I use. But the bulk of my deer have been with a .270 win I had given to me when I was 14Killed most of my deer with a .300 Winnie!!!
