280 for almost all my deer hunting.
You know, the 25-06 is a very under rated option. I was at my FFL/gunsmith's place yesterday. He has a big house full of african game mounted....including the #4 in the world cape buffalo. I ask him what he normally takes to Africa on his trips. 270, 30-06, and 25-06 was his answer. They made him use a 375 H&H for lions and cape buffalo, but he said the 25-06 will do the job on anything below those levels. Nosler ballistic tips are his bullet of choice he said.Just starting on 7mm08 build to play with but for 42 years it has been a 25-06.
25-06 is a no recoiling, deer slaying machine. 95% never felt a thing or even took a step.
I'm a 7-08 guy too. And I am also working on a 7-08 build. It will have a Zeus QC action and I will have a 7SS barrel as well.Just starting on 7mm08 build to play with but for 42 years it has been a 25-06.

I watched my hunting buddy absolutely pancake a mature whitetail buck with a neck shot at 250 yards with one of those things nobody likes. I have respect for it as a good deer caliber within reasonable distanceOne gun, me to except I still have a .257 Roberts, .270 and one of those things that nobody likes.
