Here is another reference for magnification. Rock hill is a 741 yds.

Ok, .300 win mag. Target 12 x 12 steel plate. 800 to 1200 yds. Still learning. $750.00. Thanks

For that, an Arken EPL (I would prefer the 4-16), or an SWFA variable would get you there with budget to spare.

If you wanted to do it with zero fuss, an SWFA 10x or 12x fix power would have you pounding granders in no time.

What you are looking to achieve doesn't really require much besides accurate and repeatable turrets and good reliability. Most bells and whistles won't provide any additional benefit.

Its personal preferance. I know I'm in the minority, but I like much lower power than most. In fact, I shoot better with lower power. Higher mag just magnifies movement and gets in my head. I preferr 10 to 16x top end. With an appropriate reticle, I have no problem with deer size targets at 10X and 1K.
Agreed. If I can't see the animal through a scope like you mentioned…I need to get my stock on and get closer.

A fixed 10x SWFA is a dream for that game, as it has fantastic turrets, and decent enough glass. The 12x and above get a bit dicey on eye relief.

Arken are well regarded for that price point as has been stated here already. I've owned a strike eagle 5-25 and an Athlon 5-25, both of which were fine enough but didn't do much for me above 20x.

If you watch, you'll find the SWFA SS HD 5-20 go on sale for 700-800 about 3x per year. I have yet to see an optic in that price point that has equitable glass, is as tough, or has the same quality turrets. They're heavy but that's fine for a bench/prone rifle.

I pretty much only run the Leupold mark 5. I think a FFP is a requirement and I typically require locking elevation turret and and a covered or locking windage turret with a matching mil/Moa reticle.

Leupold
Nightforce
USO
Zco
Zeis

There are numerous good choices. I personally would not pick a vx5 as I think it misses the mark on some of my requirements.

The fist time I was able to shoot a 1000 yards I brought 3 rifles. Scopes on the rifles were Steiner military 4-16, Leopold mark 4 4-14 and a NF NXS 5-22. Was able to hit the 1000 yard target with all 3 scopes.

Use the Search option as there are 100's of threads covering this in great detail. The more information you have the better.

I'm old and getting older. My eye sight is becoming the weak link in my shooting the more I age. So for magnification I'm gonna go with....it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I use a variety of different power scopes.
Most of my hunting scopes are in the 4-12 to 4-16 range, and i do shoot them out to 1,000 yards for targets.
My match scopes are both Sightrons.
4-20X50 STAC for 600 yard, that i bought new for around $450.

Short range Benchrest and 1,000 yard i got a used Sightron SIII 10-50X60 for $750.

Lots of people using either Sightron or Vortex Golden Eagle.
