When I started hunting I used a .308 win then switched to a 30-06 for one season then onto the 7mm Wby Mag and pretty much used that for 20 years, the last 10 years have been a revolving door of cartridges, and started building a lot of rifles
I have several rifles in 22 mag, 6mm CM, 6.5CM, 6.5 PRC, 6.5-284, 280 AI, 28 Nosler, 300 Wby and soon to have a 300 PRC.
Would love to hear about your 300 PRC once you shoot it. Would you mind posting about it??
Isn't that the truth! I have multiple different calibers I hunt with, but I am comfortable grabbing the old 30-06 on any hunt I go on. My first rifle was a Christmas present from my dad. It was a Remington 700 30-06. I still have that rifle and it has taken more game than all of my other rifles combined.Ya, I could have listened better to Dad, 50 years ago, when he told me that all I needed for North American big game hunting was a good 30-06, he was right.
But... Learning and using all the different cartridges and rifles over the years has certainly been fun and interesting.

45/70, 375 H&H, 300 Win mag, 300 WSM, 30-06, 308 Win, 30-30, 7mm Rem mag, 25-06, 6mm Rem, 223, 204 Ruger and of course the 22 long rifle!
Don't have all the rifles anymore, but a pretty good cross-section of rifle cartridges I think. I'm sure I picked up somebody else's rifle and hunted with it a time or two, but these are the rifle cartridges for owned and used for hunting.
How 'bout you?
Regards, Guy
I only have a small number of hunting rifles: 308 (Savage 16), 280AI (BigHorn, criterion barrel). Love them both. Have gotten deer with them and my 12 guage. Haven't used my 22lr to hunt with or my 5.56. I would love to get: 300rum, 300wm, 30-06, 28NOS, 7mm rm, 6.5 cm. 6.5 PRC, .243 win or AI and more, but I am grateful for what I have!! You guys have some great gun collections!
Ya. NOS 28 with Berger 195.. you could hit elk on the moon from earth and kill them . What are you going to hunt with the NOS 26? It seem like that would be a real laser...My next rifle is going to be a 26 nosler - took a hard look at the 28 nosler tho, paired with some 195 bergers, i think it would be a helluva combo. I haven't bought the 26 yet - I am waiting for berger to release their 155/156gr.
You should go ahead with the .28 Nosler... By the time the 156's get released, you'll be ready for a new barrel. It took 3 years for the 7mm 195's to finally hit the shelves. My next rifle is going to be a 26 nosler - took a hard look at the 28 nosler tho, paired with some 195 bergers, i think it would be a helluva combo. Well, since I will only have about 500 shots in the barrel I am going to have to be selective - Lol! Elk, Mule deer and antelope is the plan. Maybe a frank church black bear.Ya. Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing the last couple months. I am not opposed to the 28 - just thought a 156gr pill out of the 26 sounded fun.You should go ahead with the .28 Nosler...
