Reloading 7mm PRC

I've been running 70gr of Retumbo under the 175 ELDX in most of the rifles that we have built. I'm using Hornady brass and GM215M primers. It seems like a great all around load as I haven't had any rifles not meet our accuracy standard which is under 1/2" at 100 yards for all 30 cal and under. This load runs a consistent 3000 FPS out of a 24" barrel. Pretty hard to argue with those results! I'm definitely going to have to build myself a 7PRC one of these days...

How many firings are you getting out of that Hornady brass?

I have 2 sets of brass that are on their 6th loading as of this morning still with tight primer pockets.
How are you doing that ?

Mine have very little resistance when you seat a primer in the unfired stuff that I've been just pulling the bullets on factory ammo.
Not hot loads and I will probably be tossing it after 3 shots.
My goal was 3000 with 175 EH but I don't think this 💩 brass will let me get there unless I just want to use it once.

The first firing on new brass needs to be at a lower pressure. The impact will help work harden the primer pockets.

I bought factory ammo when it was first available. After firing 20 rds I realized it was over pressure. I pulled the rest of the factory ammo (over 100 rounds) removed 3 grains of powder from each round and reseated the bullets. I've now got 3 firings on the brass and it is still great. I do anneal the necks after every firing though.

Other important factors are what powder you are using to achieve your goal, chamber dimensions and barrel length.

I was getting pressure on the factory stuff I fired also.
I was only getting 2820 fps with the factory 175 ammo and have pressure there.

My load is with RL 26 66.5 gr and 175 EH at 2924 fps in a SAAMI chamber 24" proof 1-8.4 twist.
Shoots awesome with RL26 but I think I will try some retumbo and H1000.

Typical Hornady brass…junk.

Hard to say. It could be a number of things. I'm using some of the earliest brass available from Hornady. None of it has "the ring" on the case head. As a rule, our barrels tend to shoot faster than other brands with the same given load.

Anybody use staball 6.5 with 7mm prc? I have some and am curious if burn rate too quick. 26" barrel and 175-180 bullets preferred but might try 162 eldx if needed.

Have been loading a couple hundred 180 eld m with 7828ssc and havr been able to get half moa at 500 yds.
But not temp stable.

I've loaded several hundred rounds through my 7 LRM, and found with the 180's, I got better velocities out of H1000 or similar speeds (IMR7977) than Retumbo. N570 left unburnt kernels in the barrel. Perhaps I didn't 'overload' it, which would have created a higher initial pressure and more efficient burn.

In the 300 Win mag with heavier bullets I see alot of guys showing good results. That is with 215gr class bullets. It might be slow for the lighter bullets. I am going to try it with 208gr Bergers in a WM. H1000 is supposed to be a good one too. I am going to try that as well, along with some old school 7828ssc.
