I agree - I don't aim for the spine either. I aim for the vitals. If I am careful about selecting the right bullet for the right game animal, I've never experienced a bullet failure.
These ammo manufacturers embellish their numbers. I'm only getting 2788 fps out of the factory 175 ELDX. Now, my rifle is the Bergara B14 Crest with a 22" barrel. I still shouldn't be 212 fps slower. That's why I started reloading for it.What bullet and who is claiming 3200fps out of a 7prc?
I'm only aware of 6 factory loads so far for the PRC.
Federal 175 ELDX @3000
Federal 155 TA @3100
Federal 170 TA @????
Hornady 160 CX @3000
Hornady 175 ELDX @3000
Hornady 180 ELDM @2975
Maybe a little optimistic, but the factory numbers are 3000 fps out of a 24" barrel. You're really only about 100 fps slower when barrel length is taken into account.These ammo manufacturers embellish their numbers. I'm only getting 2788 fps out of the factory 175 ELDX. I wouldn't doubt any of what you said. I was just looking for where anybody claimed 3200 fps as was pointed out by the OP.These ammo manufacturers embellish their numbers. In my experience, you only lose 25-40 fps per inch depending on the caliber. Plus, I get an additional 15 fps from my suppressor. These companies know how to sell salt to a slug. I have yet to find factory ammo that shoots close to its advertised numbers.Maybe a little optimistic, but the factory numbers are 3000 fps out of a 24" barrel. Go listen the podcast by the folks at Hornady. They never claim less recoil than 7 RM. In fact they say done as a custom a 7RM can achieve everything the PRC can. They do claim 32% less recoil than the 28 Nosler.I have had people tell me that 7PRC has less recoil than a 7MM Rem.
Now I was told all my academic life that for every action there was a reaction equal in force and opposite in direction!
So how could that be?
Well said Bang.I know someone else already posted 'the bottom line' and they weren't wrong. I just wanted to say it again and take it another step, as I feel that many have taken to the sport of trashing new cartridges because they aren't a super duper amazing improvement of the the best case of a different cartridge. So, again, here is the deal- there are things that are known and proven to be contributors to accuracy, consistency, performance and efficiency. Those are not just words....there is deliberate design behind all of them. The 7 PRC is really just a compliment of most.of the known contributors to these factors. The shorter fatter case is known to be more efficient powder burn than longer and thinner. The long neck is proven to be an accuracy and consistency contributor and proven as such in many other extremely accurate comp cartridges, the diameter (7mm) is known to strike an excellent balance of weight and BC potential for med/heavy size big game. The twist rate, while maybe not exactly cartridge specific, really is cartridge specific as it was a chance to improve on all of the slower twist 7mm that have been out to date. So, the thought might to be take the time to appreciate what the firearms makers are doing for us as shooters with making things continually better, and stop spinning this like this just a marketing ploy to sell rifles and components. You should probably expect more of this kind of trend (development of cartridges that are only small variations on an existing cartridge), and we should embrace it. No one is forcing anyone to buy it, and if you don't want one, that is just fine. Think of how it helps the availability of components for your ' not so brand new' cartridge. I don't have any trouble finding everything I need for my 6.5x284s......more than the 6.5 PRC guys can say. For the record, I currently do not own a 7 PRC.....but maybe someday.
22" barrel - Bergara B14 CrestI didn't see it before. Is this from a 24" or 26" barrel?
Do you think that load will hold up at 50 degrees? I run into really nice loads at your temp and then when spring hits some will be too hot.I loaded the Berger 180 VLD Hunting with H1000, ADG brass, and CCI 34 primers. 68.6 grains is a true winner at a COL of 3.300" and 3.3340". Both groups were sub-MOA and put me near 3k fps. 3.300" yielded 2980 fps and 3.3340" yielded 2993 fps with SDs of 5.0 and 6.7, respectively. I got very light ejector marks when I shot 69.8 grains. It was 28 degrees when I shot these loads.
I think it will be fine because H1000 is temp stable. However, I will test it once it warms up a bit.Do you think that load will hold up at 50 degrees? I run into really nice loads at your temp and then when spring hits some will be too hot.

I would think that working up a load for the 7mm Rem Mag on H4831 the 58 grs seem light, but that is what is shown. The Rem PRC is a 26" barrel length, and the 7mmRM is 24". Hodgdon on shows 24" in the & PRC.Free recoil energy;
7 PRC with 175gr - 25.2 ft. lbs
7 Rem Mag with 163gr - 23.15 ft. lbs
Hodgdon load data with 175gr bullet;
7PRC
Hodgdon H4831
3.300" 57.0 2,660 48,000 PSI 63.3 2,923 62,300 PSI
7 Rem Mag
Hodgdon H4831
3.290" 55.0 2,532 45,800 CUP 58.0 2,660 50,200 CUP
The 7PRC will have more recoil. However it is rather obvious the 7 PRC has superior ballistics given the ability to load with more grains of powder, quicker twist rate and ability to handle larger superior BC bullets.
