New 30/375 wildcat

Thanks Paul for posting! This isn't the best this rifle will do but the 780 powder shows potential. Actually, these bullets ARE hunting bullets, not target. They certainly could be used for target but I developed them specifically for long range hunting and they perform very well. I ran some numbers on JBM and feel that the 218 pictured would be lethal on game at very near one mile. I have to do the testing yet, but based on my other SXR bullets, the b.c. should be right around .352 G7 and at 3000-3050' mv, and good expansion down to 1200-1300', that makes one mile! Not that I plan to shoot at elk that far, but show me a shelf bullet that will expand at 500 yards less than that and I'll be surprised! I am a fan of Berger bullets for good reason but they simply will not begin to perform at this range/velocity. I have a couple of expanded pics of the SXR if someone wants to give me there personal e-mail, I can send them......Rich

My chrono came in today and it was raining and blowing sideways but I could only stand so much so I ventured out between squalls and managed to fire two loads over the screens.:D No, groups but got some indication of potential velocities. neither load had bolt stiffness or loose primer pockets etc.
210M primer, 80 grains H1000, 218 SXR....2892'
215 primer, 82 grains Retumbo, 218 SXR....3022'
Both had ES under 20'
As soon as I get time from work and good weather I plan on doing some testing for Max on several powders and then get busy on serious load developement.......Rich

Here are the pictures of Rich's bullets recovered from game. Pretty impressive!

Thanks Korhil! As I told you, my wife deleted some of my pics so I had to take pics of a couple of bullets that I found in a drawer:rolleyes: I'm 90% sure they are as posted. I plan on starting to carry my camera more and get some of game.......Rich

I did some max load testing today with 5 different powders (RL22, RL25, H1000, Retumbo, W780) The weather was crappy so I may test a little more later to fine tune but this should be close. I was shooting my 218's and using 215 primers in all loads.
Retumbo 82.5 grains 3040'
RL25 81 grains 3009' (it might go a little higher)
RL22 78 grains 3000'
H1000 81 grains 2964'
W780 75.5 grains 2956'
None of these loads had stiff extraction but were starting to flatten primers pretty well.
None had loose pockets from one firing.......Rich

Did you just shoot for velocity Rich or did you shoot groups too? That's good velocity IMO with a .700+ BC bullet.

I didn't shoot for group as I was in a hurry and dodging squalls but what was interesting was I fired 16 rounds with 5 powders of varying weights using the same aiming point and EVERYTHING went in just over an inch......Rich

Nice!

+1 on the nice part. It's pretty cool to get a barrel that shoots just about anything you throw at it. I'm sure using the same bullet and roughly the same velocity for all the powders didn't hurt that though.

Hey rich,
Im recieving my 7LRM from gunwerks in a couple weeks and wanted to know what you thought I could get out of it with the new berger 195's? its a benchmark barreled 6 groove 1-8" twist finished at 27" with a tactical muscle break 3 port. They will be sending 200 of there brand new headstamped 7LRM brass with the gun. I know that 3100fps with the 180 bergers is no problem for this and i was hoping to get an even 3000fps with the 195's. Do you think this is doable since you are getting 3040fps with 218's and similar case size?

I think it is possible although you might fall just a little short? We'll see:D.....Rich
