You couldn't pay me to shoot King-2-Mile with that course of fire. I thought our Tonopah 2 Miles was the right combination of distance and precision, right up until they cancelled our insurance wand we pulled the plug. There will be lots more ELR events coming up, it is just a question of getting info on the where and course of fire to figure out which ones I will be attending. My .375/416 Barrett rig is finally here (awaiting transfer to me), I just need to get over and pick it up. It will be somewhere in the vicinity of 35-38 lbs - not positive until to stand it up on the scale. I don't plan on hauling to around too much. at 60+ inches in length, the darn thing will only fit into the bed of truck (Tacoma short bed) canted corner to corner.

So Ed, what is the case capacity of your 3.6" 416 HSM BMG offering?

It is 3.94" long and capacity of fired and

sized case is 320 gr plus..Ed

It seems to me, that with a plethora of high BC projectiles, and a vast array of cases and appropriate actions available, the real rate limiting step is slow enough powders. Here in AU, the slowest powder readily available is ADI 2218. If only they made their 20mm cannon powder available - then we would have some fun!

Yes we are lucky here, as we have couple dozen surplus powders slower than what gun shops carry.. Ed

There will be 3 versions OF 416 HSM, one for actions one .750" bolt, one for .800-.850" bolt,
And one for bigger bmg bolts. The ones for BMG called 416 HSM2 ..

Here is 416 HSM guy working in a Montana PH, in a heavy thumbhole target stock.
It has a .805" diameter bolt... Ed

Here is sectioned 585 HE case in the middle, we first made from

another case, years ago before we had factory run of brass and

it had perfect thickness on the sides and inside corrner.

We could fire them many times without sides thinning..

First case is factory run of our 585 HE, 3rd is case that is too thick

of sides and sticks at high pressures..

Here is pic of our factory run cases necked down to 375 and fired 4 times

at high pressure on the right, with unfired case on the left. Our case is not

perfect but does work...Ed

About 416 cal bullets............The heaviest 550 gr for Extreme ELR probably be best 8 to 1 twist , in 416 caliber bullets,
and 500 gr 9 to 1, and 470gr 10 to one, Barrels I have 10 to 1.
Now a novel idea is to lighten rear of bullet with small shallow hole drilled in base, might do better long range.which would allow 10 to one barrel stabilize the heavier bullets for ELR.
Have hole maybe 2/3 size of tail end of boat tail...Some going to have to try it to see if it is accurate. Ed.

Hi,

The "novel" idea is already in production for various calibers.
David Tubb and others have been testing some 338 and 6.5 projectiles designed by Jim Boatright with the bases drilled out. He also already has the projectile design with bases drilled for the 375, 408, 416 and 510 but that design is purely a "gap fill" for people not wanting to rebarrel their rifle with the 6 and 7 twist needed to achieve hyper-stabilization with non based drilled solids.
The concept really comes to life with Jims research paper on Hyper-stabilization of Projectiles and the Coning Theory of Rifle Projectiles.

While there are some who confuse the fact that he was a SEAL with using THIRTY-EIGHT shots to get one hit and calling it a 'record', I'm not confused and I don't call it a record of anything. I call it exactly what it is, luck, plain and simple.

But everyone needs their 15 seconds of fame...

And if we can go 10 to 1 and say keep drilled 525gr

416 bullet stable for two miles barrel should outlast one

that is 7-8 to 1, easier to get more speed.

The 416 base drilled projectile is 379.6gr and non base drilled projectile is 475.15gr.
