In the Ear? Really???

... I have read and re-read this several times and wonder if you meant POSTED...rather than posed.

i'm not going to reveal the difference between POSED and POSTED, but here's a hint.

Let me see if I can understand this. You Posted a Posed picture of a Posted area, and then posed the question of whether I understood the difference? Well gee, guess not!

The original comment was based on your typing skills rather than a case of semantics! Since you were already POSED in the back of the truck, I thought maybe you had inadvertently dropped a "T". MY mistake.

Remind me not to ask any more rhetorical questions....

OK, I actually need some expertise here!

A week or so ago, I acquired a Ruger Scout in .308. When I picked it up, the dealer was trying to sell me a Reflex sight to go with it and actually mounted it on the rifle so I could get the feel of swinging it and sighting. he wanted a little over $300.00 for the sight. For this particular weapon, I liked the feel and especially fast tracking of it.

I went online last night and was wandering around looking at Reflex sights and can't for the life of me figure out what the difference is between the $25.00 sight on Ebay and the $300.00 sight from something or other Optics. Side by side comparisons show their made from the same materials, same batteries, same degree of accuracy, etc. Probably made by the same Chinese manufacturer.

I don't mind paying for what I get, but is there actually $275.00 worth of difference between them? Would someone please explain what I'm paying for with the more expensive sight? Besides the name! They're all made in China, so is the QC better with one than the other? What should I be looking for?

What I would like is a good mid-range reflex sight that I can count on, once zero'd to the rifle. And I do not believe that a $300.00 sight is twice as good as a $150.00 sight without some kind of difference. There has to be a good reason for the price difference, I just haven't found it yet.

Thanks for any help!

Pack yes the difference is quality. I did the same thing as you mot to long ago. Yes they look the same and I could have swore they were the same but after using the cheap one bam junk. I have seem this many times as everyone does exactly what you did. Unfortunately the higher the tag the tougher they are. Depending on your goals I ended up looking between the aim point, eotech, and Burris m-tac. These were the only three that would hold up to my .458. I ended with the m-tac it had wide field of view and seemed to sight as good as the eotech. The places I liked it better were the Reticle does not need a battery to work. Second it had zoom without buying another adapter. Hope this help.

OK, so will check them out.....And thanks. Only firing a .308, but since this is for my grandaughter's use, eventually, after she can shoot it accurately with iron sights. Wanted something that would hold up. I like the idea of no battery required for the reticle and the zoom feature.

The one thing I don't like, at least so far, is the smallest MOA I have found is 3 MOA. Fine for fast moving hogs, but not sure the kids will ever get to hunt hogs, unless their Uncle John takes them down to the Ranch.

Anyone else got any ideas or suggestions? djones, you using one of these?

pakman,
if i had your money i'd burn mine. just get the most expensive and quit worrying about it. i spent the last six hours installing a hot water heater trying to save enough so i wouldn't run out of grocery money before the end of the month. now i have an aching back. i may even have to start shooting small hogs so i can still pose them until it gets better. i'm going to lay down for a while. if i ever get back up i'll report on red dot stuff.

Idaho,
As far as unsubscribing, don't have the faintest since I've never subscribed to a specific thread before. Guess that shows that the level of intelligence, or at least the lack of it, is all you claim, but we're sure that if you keep reading the thread, eventually you'll catch up! So where's the pictures from Rustic River...Been waiting! BTW, we're going to miss all your input!......:D

djones: Lets take this one step at a time per your conversation:
1) As far as my money, well if I had all you must think I have, then why would my major source of entertainment be posting on this thread and putting up with all the cr*p from you.
2) Since when did you ever concern yourself with HOT water, or any other water for that matter! You finally going to take up bathing? Finally overcame your Hydrophobia?
3) If you hadn't pigged out (Excuse the expression) and overeaten throughout the first of the month, you'd have enough for the rest of the month, and probably next month!
4) Shoot small hogs?...How about posting ANY hogs, lately! Either that, or you're trying to acquire a wide angle lens for your camera from all that pigging out!
5) Your back aches?.......well, from my standpoint, I have a much lower opinion!

If I hadn't sold that Fume Hood I salvaged from an Army remodeling project, couldn't have bought the Ruger for the Grandkid, but it's a tradition in the family, so had to come through for her Birthday. My son asked me about the sight for the rifle, so was trying to give him some decent advice on it.

Now what's this about Red Dot stuff?, You can rest later!

let me see if i've got this straight. this thread isn't intellectual enough for you, yet you don't know how to unsubscribe from a thread, so you ask for advice here. ummm okayyyy....

pro tip - you can't unsubscribe. you have to change your email address

i use a burris fastfire iii on a 22 pistol and like it. i was looking for a reticle with a manual control for brightness in case i didn't like the auto setting. would like to have had selectable reticles but the dot was ok. i 'researched' some of the cheaper sights and there were complaints of the zero not holding or just failing in some other way.

OK, thanks...That's all I really needed. will golook it up. Have already researched Snox's recommendations.

Anyone else out there got some recommendations?

Went and looked at the Burris Fastfire III and they must be phasing them out because every one I saw was discounted to about $300.00 from the $450.00 range. Still don't know for sure what I'm going to get, but some of the Burris look interesting and will keep looking and comparing. Thanks for the input so far. Got about a month before I have to ship it.

The way this usually works is I buy it, then my son reimburses me, so pretty much can do what I want. If the cost gets too high, then I tell him a lot lower amount that I think he can afford. After all, he's got a family to feed, while my wife and I do very well as long as they keep the cost of canned cat food down!.....:)

Getting old is hell. I thought that my grandaughter was going to be 13, then my son called about 2 weeks ago and told me she was going to be 14.....****, day before yesterday she was 8. Where'd the time go?

Just feeling old today....Not as old as djones looks, but still old!....:D In fact, unless I start feeling better, am not going to enter the Iron Man Triathlon this year. Last year, came in right behind the guy that broke both legs and an arm in the first event.

You know, from the statement by Idaho Elk Hunter, I can't figure out if he is claiming the intellectual level on this thread is too high or too low for him. Can be read both ways. I do have my suspicions about which way he is trying to lean though, but with the phrasing of that sentence, I'm not sure! Could be just another pseudo sophisticate, who voted for Obama,............ Twice.

Somehow, I just can't imagine coming into a Hog thread to engage in intellectual discourse! Isn't that somehow like taking a sandwich to a seven course meal?

Anyway for the rest of you, if you are reading this thread and enjoying it, which over 200 views were posted today alone, (of course, djones was 45 of those) then ya'll come on back, ya hear! .....:D
