Hornady ELD-X Official Thread

There has been very little on these bullets in what minimum rifle twist should be - can you sneak that question in also.

Be glad to...I shoot a 300 WM, Rem 700 ...26" and 1-10" twist . If memory serves me,
Hornady used the same rifle in its ELD-X testing.

I haven't loaded a lot of Hornady's. What would you all recommend for a starting point for bullet seating?

Your safest bet would be to run something similar to Berger's seating depth test starting at .010 off the lands.

What is the difference between the ELD-X and ELD-M? Jacket thickness? I just read the whole, but maybe I missed it. thanks, Brent

The ELD-X is an improved version of the SST bullet with a thicker tapered jacket that has the inter-lock ring inside the jacket moved forward to retain more bullet weight, designed specifically for hunting

The ELD-Match bullet is an improved AMAX bullet and without the interlock ring, a "Match" bullet and Hornady folks do not consider it a hunting bullet

Both bullets have their new Heat Shield tips .....

I have some 143's on back order and cant wait to get them I have been wanting to push my throat out a little on my 264 W.M. and re-develop a load but I have been too lazy now hornady has given me a good excuse to do so. I know someone who has some 212's that hornady sent him to test and he has shot deer and Elk at short and long range and he said he has been extremely impressed so far. I was there to witness a cow elk Kill at just a little under 1600 yds and they did the job exceptionaly well as far as I can tell if the other bullet weights and calibers perform like the 212's I think we will all be very happy with these

Brentc and Lefty7mmstw,
Thanks for the imput.
I've got a long throated Savage in 6.5x284 that is impossible to get close to the lands with Berger 140 VLD's.

I haven't been able to find the bearing surface dimensions of the ELD-X bullets.

Anyone have that info?
